She concluded. "Drugs can ruin
families, (ruin) your dreams, (ruin)
your future. Diugs arc addictive and
drugs can kill."

Congressman Doggett and State
Representatives Ryan Guillen and
Aaron Pena."
Garza contended, "The lit si
person to offer you drugs won't
always be the drug dealer at the
corner near the theater or near the
shopping mall. The lirst person to
offer you drugs might be your best
friend, your cousin, your brother, or
even in some cases, your parents.
The mayor warned, "A person
using drugs is on a road to
nowhere. When that offer comes,
always have the courage to say no.
Rio Grande City CISD
Superintendent Roel Gonzalez
emphasized, "The pledge to keep
our bodies and minds safe and clean
goes far beyond today."
County Judge Eloy Vera stressed
to the students, "It's up to you to
tell your friends to stay off drugs.
RGCCISD Boaid President Basilio
D. Villarreal, Jr. commented, "Our
RGCCISD students are the very
best in the entire country. Say no
to drugs, no to alcohol."
Remarks were also offered by La
Grulla Mayor Pro Tern Jose Angel
Villarreal.
After Rep. Guillen offered some
brief closing remarks, a massive
balloon release was carried out by
RGCCISD students.
The welcome for the event was
given by Superintendent Gonzalez.
Tony Urbina of Rio Grande City
High School served as Master of
Ceremonies.
The Star Spangled Banner was
sung by Eileana Guerra of Rio
Grande City High School. Marcus
Villarreal of Ringgold Middle
School led the audience in the
Pledge of Allegiance. The
invocation was given by
Immaculate Conception School
(ICS) student Heriberto Montalvo.
The presentation of colors was
led by Junior ROTC Sgt. Marco
Pena of Rto Grande City High
School.
The Red Ribbon Week
proclamation was read by Mauricio
Magallano.
The Rio Grande Herald hopes to
print further details about the Red
Ribbon ceremony in the near
future.

other arrests have been made. As of
today, 13 arrests have been made. A
few other outstanding warrants are
still pending; several more arrests
are possible."
Flores noted, "The armed gunmen
carried assault weapons such as AK
47's and AR-15's and handguns in
both incidents."
