John and Olive Hinojosa Elementary students participated in the District UIL Invitational meet where they
competed against other RGCCISD schools. The students' hard work and dedication paid off when they were

John and Olive Hinojosa Elementary
students participated in the District
UIL Invitational meet in which they
excelled in a variety of ways. One
fine example of their perseverance in
becoming the District UIL Champi-
ons for the second consecutive year.
The school's administration, teach-
ers, and UIL coaches are extremely
proud of the students hard work and
dedication in the area of academics.
John & Olive Hinojosa Elementary
has some of the most dedicated UIL
sponsors who have demonstrated
their ability to help students succeed
and instill in them the value of hard
work and determination. The

The Rio Grande City Rattler
football players of 2003 were
honored at the annual Quarterback
Club Football Banquet on
Thursday, April 1 at the
Multipurpose Center.
Guest speaker James Falcon, a
1999 Rio Grande City High School
graduate and former Rattler and a
2003 University of Texas graduate,
delivered a very inspirational speech
and encouraged and emphasized the
importance of goal setting
James went on to say how lie,
too, had his share of wins and
losses, but that the team never gave
up The more the team worked
together, the more united they
became. The 1998-99 Rattlers went
on to play in the playoff's. James

Club will now be holding its
weekly meetings each Monday at 7
p.m. at the new Athletic Fieldhouse
near the high school on FM ^ 167

camaraderie bound them together to
build a strong goal to win and to be
the best that they could be.
James expressed that the same
type of goal setting applies to life
outside of football, adding that
football just taught them discipline
and goal setting. James' words were
expressed with deep fondness
towards his alma mater and his
comrades.

coaches were then serenaded by the
Rio Grande City High School
Manachi Band under the direction of
Ms. Grade Naranjo.
The Quarterback Club irembers,
athletes and coaches wholeheartedly
thank the parents, community,
school organizations and school
administrators for their support.

County Fair grand champion
RGCCISD New Release
Meagan McGuffin, a 3rd grade stu-
lent 'it General Ricardo Sanchez El-
ementary. was awarded Grand
Champion at the 2(X)4 Starr County
Fair Educational Poster Contest in
the Junior Division.
The theme she chose for her poster
vva* "A Salute to our Local Hero
General Ricardo Sanchez." Meagan
is an Honor Roll student and is proud
t< attend a school which is named in
honor of Ricardo Sanchez a local
natr.e and her local hero
Her motivation for this contest was
due to letters she had written to Mr.
Sanchez overseas. The correspon-
dence shared back and forth is what
prompted Meagan to participate in
this contest.
(his accomplishment is not the
only one under Meagan's belt, but
she was also named a Giraffe Hero
in January 2004. This honor was be-
stowed on her due to donating a cash
prize to her church that she had won
in an art contest.
Meagan is extremely involved in
school and 4-H activities that keep
her busy year round. To her friends
and fellow classmates she is known
to be very friendly and caring to-
wards others. Congratulations
Meagan on being named Grand
Champion!
