Parental Involvement holds Open House
The RGCCISD Parental Involvement Program held an Book Distributi :.i for Parents on October 24.

The Parental Involvement program is a strong advocate in promoting literacy, and lias made tree books

opening on Saturday, Nov. 15,
according to Store Manager
Mike Gonzalez.
The Rio Grande City location
is I ractor Supply Company's

Community invited to STC Starr
Campus 15th anniversary celebration
South I exas Coileee is 15
years old this year and so the
college is throwing a big, day-
long Ouiceanera to celebrate.
The community is invited to
partake in a full day of free, fun
festivities and activities from 10
a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
Nov. 20, 2008 at STC's Starr
County Campus located at 142
FM 3167 in Rio Grande City.
I he event is geared at fun for
the entire family. Children and
their families can enjoy
mariachis, folklorico dancers,
choirs, a DJ, an auto show and a
carnival. In addition, all former
STC students are invited to
special former student forums
from 10 to II a.m. and 2:00 to
3:00 p.m.
Also, there will be a cake
decorating and a floral
arrangement demonstrations
offered from 4 to 6 p.m.
A health fair includes free
diabetes and blood pressure
screenings, as well as
information from local health
vendors.
From 6:30 to 8 p.m. the
community is invited to the
campus Amphitheater for the
Grand Finale, featuring
performances by the Rio Grande
City High School Mariachi, El
Cascabel, the Drum Line, and
the Folkloric Dancers, as well as
by the acclaimed Cantare Choir.

Assessor/Collector Carmen A.
Pena reported on county tax
collections for October 2008 at
the regular monthly meeting of
the County Commissioners on
Monday morning, Nov. 10.
The grand total collected for
October 2008 was
$8,057,312.29. The county's
share for the current year,
including County and FM/FC
entities only, was
$4,910,762.20. The county's
share for delinquent years,
including County and FM/FC
only, was $121,188.12.
October 2008 overall
collections showed an increase
of $4,482,101.37 from the
October 2007 total of
$3,575,210.92.
