RGC, Grulla show increases in
July 2007 sales tax rebates
On Friday, July 13, State
Comptroller Susan Combs
delivered monthly sales tax
rebates to 1132 cities and 122
counties, with Rio Grande City
and Grulla recording solid
increases from the July 2006
sales tax rebates.
The City of Rio Grande City's
July 2007 rebate check of
$258,593.47 is 8.78 percent
higher than the July 2006 rebate
chck of $237,706.39. For the
first seven months of 2007, Rio
Grande City has received
$1,946,877.77 in rebate checks,
an increase of 6.01 percent from
the $1,836,464.36 received
during the same reporting period
of 2006.
The City of Roma's July 2007
rebate check of $80,238.60 is
2.75 percent lower than the July
2006 rebate check of
$82,509.95. Thus far in 2007,
Roma has received $625,949.12
in rebate checks, an increase of
2.13 percent from the
$612,850.49 received during the
same reporting period of 2006.
The City of Grulla received a
July 2007 rebate check of
$1213.08, an increase of 3.87
percent from the July 2006
rebate check of $1167.80. For
2007 to date, Grulla has
received $7338.23 in rebate
checks, a decrease of 9.37
percent from the $8097.58
received during the same
reporting period of 2006.
The City of Escobares
received its second ever rebate
check, with its July 2007
allocation amounting to
$1218.89. Over the two-month
period, Escobares has received
$2618.85 in rebate checks.
On July 13, Comptroller
Combs delivered $331.4 million
in monthly sales tax payments to
1132 Texas cities and 122
counties, an increase of 9.4
percent from the $303.1 million
allocated in July 2006.
July sales tax rebates include
local sales taxes collected in
May and reported to the
Comptroller in June.
June state sales tax revenue is
also based on sales that occurred
in May.
The sales tax rebates included
$304 million to Texas citics, 9.5
percent higher than the July
2006 payments of $277.6
million. For the 2007 calendar
year to date, city sales tax
allocations are running 7.3
percent higher than in 2006.
Texas counties received July
2007 sales tax rebates of $27.4
million, an increase of 7.4
percent compared to the July
2006 figure of $25.5 million.

than the same time period last
year.
Another $14.7 million went to
121 special purpose taxing
districts around the state, a 19.8
percent increase compared to
July 2006. Texas' six
Metropolitan Transit Authorities
and four City Transit
Departments received a total of
$100 million in sales tax
allocations, up 3.4 percent
compared to July 2006.
The state's share of sales tax
revenue reported in June 2007
was $1.63 billion, an increase of
9.3 percent compared to June
2006.
'Sales tax collections continue
to grow at a steady pace,"
Combs said. "Growth in the
construction, oil and gas, and
retail sectors are helping the
current strength of the Texas
economy."
On July 13, a total of $446.4
million was delivered in
monthly sales tax rebates to
Texas cities, counties, transit
departments and special purpose
taxing districts, an increase of
8.3 percent compared to the July
2006 figure of $412.4 million.
So far this calendar year, local
sales tax allocations are up 6.7
percent compared to the first
seven months of 2007.
The July 2007 sales tax
rebates for Starr County cities
amounted to $341,264.04, an
increase of 6.18 percent from
the July 2006 total of
$321,384.14. For the entire
calendar year of 2007, Starr
County cities have received
rebates amounting to
$2,582,783.97, an increase of
5.10 percent from the
$2,457,412.43 received during
the same reporting period of
2006.

The Starr County Farm Bureau annual meeting and dinner is set for this Thursday, September 20, at
6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express Meeting Room. Guest speaker will be Robert King, estate

placed in the boxes for needy Starr County families by the children on I uesday morning at the I C S.
Morning Prayer assembly. Board President Ronnie Zamora thanked the school, Principal Ruby
Urbina, and Pastor Father Amador Garza for their cooperation. The second project was a donation of
S100 to purchase needed items for the Ronald McDonald House in Harlingen, which assists families of
people who are being treated for cancer.
