<Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you
sent a floral piece, if so we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the fondest
words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just
thought of us that day. 'Whatever you did to console our hearts, we
thanfoyou so much.
'We would [Hie to express our sincere thanks to our many relatives and
friends who so fondly offered their condolences, flowers, food, cards,
phone calls, masses, prayers and their presence during the passing
away of our 6eloved father, grandfather , great-grandfather and
brother. 'His memories and the impact he made in our lives will live
with us forever.

U.S. Border Patrol executes
four large marijuana seizures
The U.S. Border Patrol helped
execute four large seizures of
almost 6000 pounds of marijuana
in Siarr County over the past two
weeks.
On Wednesday, Jan. 17 at
approximately 8 a.m., U.S. Border
Patrol Agents working in the La
Grulla area responded to a tip
regarding narcotics activity from
Special Agents of the U.S.
Customs Service. Border Patrol
Agents pursued the information
further and encountered a 1997 Ford
F-250 at an abandoned house near
the Rio Grande River just south of
La Grulla.
When Border Patrol Agents
approached the Ford F-250, they
discovered that the cab and the bed
of the pickup were loaded with
bundles of marijuana. Agents found
a total of 101 bundles of marijuana
weighing 1880 pounds. The
marijuana was valued at
SI,504,000.
No arrests were made in this drug
ei/ure. The Fo J pickup and
.arcotics were turned over to the
U.S. Customs Service.
On Saturday, Jan 20 at
approximately 11 p.m. near La
Casita, Rio Grande City Border
Patrol Agents were on routine
patrol duties near the Rio Grande

traveling south towards the river.
Agents set up surveillance of the
area and approximately one hour
later observed the same vehicle
traveling north with its lights
turned off.
Agents followed the vehicle, a
1997 Chevrolet Suburban, to
conduct an immigration stop. As
agents pulled in behind the
Suburban, the driver immediately
wheeled around and headed back
towards the river. The driver then
came to a stop adjacent to the river
and immediately exited the vehicle
and bolted into the thick brush.
As agents approached the
Suburban, they noticed that the
entire vehicle was loaded with
bundles of marijuana. Agents
removed a total of 80 bundles
weighing 1811 pounds and valued
at 51,448,800 from the Suburban.
Record checks revealed that the
1997 Chevrolet Suburban was
reported stolen from Missior The

in McAllen for disposition. No
arrests were made in the seizure.
On Monday, Jan. 22, Border
Patrol Agents near Salineno
received information regarding
narcotics activity from Special
Agents of the U.S. Customs ■
Service. Border Patrol Agents set
up surveillance in the area and were
able to observe two vehicles
traveling southbound on a dirt road
that leads to the Rio Grande River.
A few minutes later, agents
observed the same two vehicles
traveling northbound away from the
river and then proceeded east on
U.S. 83. Agents followed both
vehicles, and as agents approached
the black Dodge pickup truck, they
noticed that there were several
bundles of contraband visible inside
the bed of the truck.

The other vehicle, a 1992
Chevrolet Bla/.er, was stopped and
