The first Christmas trees in America (that we know of) were
those decorated for children in a German church settlement in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The trees were decorated on
Christmas morning in 1747. These Christmas trees, however,
weren't real trees! They were wooden pyramids covered with
evergreen boughs. Candles, apples and poetry verses were
used to decorate the boughs of these first Christmas trees.
