DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL OPERATIONS- Guy Peterson of Rio Grande City has
been elected to serve as Director of Special Operations for the General O.R.
Simpson Corps Honor Society at Texas A&M University for 1995-96. He is pictured
in the Corps Academic Support Center, developed and managed by the Honor Society
members.

The Honor Society is responsible
for the development anil
management of the Corps Academic
Support Center, which features
computers, files, and study areas
available to all students on campus.
Peterson will also serve his
outfit, E-l "Jocks" as Scholastics
Sergeant in 1995-96. In 1994-95,

The first test of the A1S voting
machine for the Aug. 12 South
Texas Community College election
will take place at the County
Clerk's Office on Friday, Aug. 4 at
5 p.m.
The second test will be conductcd
on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. in
the Starr County Commissioners
Courtroom.
Anyone with questions about the
voting machine tests should contact
the County Clerk's Office at
487-2101.

Supply Corporal. He has been
listed on the Commandant's Honor
Roll during the fall and spring of
1993-94 and 1994-95, as well as
being named a TAMU
Distinguished Student.
E-l won the J. J. Sanchez Award
for recruitment and retention in
1993-94 and in 1994-95, as well as
the Pcnbcrthy-Tischlcr Award for
being first in freshman athletics,
first in uppcrclassman athletics, and
first in overall athletics in 1993-94
and in 1994-95. Peterson, a
participant in intramural volleyball,
football, and basketball, was named
to the All-Corps Basketball Team
for 1995.
An Animal Science major in the
College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences. Peterson has also been
inducted into the Alpha Zeta
Agricultural Honor Fraternity and
Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
His other campus involvements
include serving as a Fish Camp
Counselor for TAMU f ish Camp
in 1994 and in 1995. In the
summer of 1995, he served as a
Freshman Orientation Leader,
conducting tours of the campus and
helping with student orientation
activities.
Active in community service,
Peterson was recognized in 1994
and in 1995 for collecting over
S100 for the annual March to the
Brazos, an annual event of the
Corps of Cadets, which raises more
money for the March of Dimes than
any student organization in the
United States.
He served as a Red Cross
Volunteer MassCare Technician
following the Houston-area floods
in the fall of 1994 and has collected
funds for the Muscular Dystrophy
Association through E-l projects.
He is currently serving his second
summer as counselor at the Texas
4-H Center in Brownwood.
Guy, a 1993 graduate of Rio
Grande City High School, is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Peterson and the grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. A. V. "Pete" (Class of
'38) Peterson of Rio Grande City.

RITUAL HONORS VANGIE ANDERSON- Vangie Anderson, second from left, was
honored with a Ritual of .Jewels at the last club meeting of the year for Texas
Laureate Zeta Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Conducting the ritual were, l-r,
Maria Paz Gonzalez, Alma Gloria Gonzalez, and Diana Peterson. The meeting,
ritual, and installation of 1995-96 officers were held in the home of Elia Perez. The
first meeting in May, held in the home of T"issa Peterson, featured a program on
Burma by Becky Canales. "This thriving country in southeastern Asia," she reported,
"is smaller than Texas, but it has about two and a half times as many people." She
told of the land, its resources, and the people, who are primarily Buddhist.
