COLLEGE STATION-Volunteer
workers would be aware that
certain out-of-pocket expenses are
(ax deductible, says Dr. Wayne
Hayeriga, an economist with the
Texas Agricultural Extension Serv-
ice, The Texas A&M University
System.
Expenses that qualify as deduc-
tions include these:
-Unreimbursed travel expenses,
including travel expenses to and
from the place of operation, and
meals and lodging on a trip away
from home for the organization,
provided-the expenses are incurred
for an organization which author-
izes your travel.
-Actual operating costs of your
car in volunteer work, or a flat
mileage of 12 cents per mile,
whichever is greater. If expenses
for gasoline, oil, tolls and parking
fees are greater than the standard
rate, you may deduct actual
expenses. You may not deduct any
part of general repair and mainte-
nance expenses, insurance or de-
Winter Texan Outlook
preciation.
-Cost of telephone calls incurred
in conducting the volunteer work.
-Cost of materials and supplies
furnished by the volunteer in
conducting the volunteer work,
such as stationery and postage.
-Convention expenses of official
delegates to conventions.
Non-deductible items include the
value of volunteer time or service
and child care expenses incurred
by volunteer work.

BY IRENE JARRETT
Celebrations started early in
October at La Loma Rio R.V.
Park.
Evelyn Leiken from Chagrin
Falls, Ohio celebrated her birthday
Oct. 7. This is Evelyn and her
husband Bob's second year in
Rosita.
November brought more Winter
Texans to the Park and more
birthday celebrations. Larry Bailey
celebrated his birthday on Nov. 7
and commented that this was the
first time he had been feted so
graciously on his birthday.
November brought two more
birthday celebrations- Cliff Jar-
rett's was the 24th and Charlie
Kazda's was the 25th. As you can
see, we get plenty of practice
before the holidays arrive. We had
at least 30 people for our Thanks-
giving dinner, which started at 2
p.m. and ended around 8 or 8:30
p.m. We all agree the cooks get
more proficient as the years go by.
December celebrations were just
about as numerous if not more so.
Lillie Guerrero's birthday was Dec.
10 and Irene Jarrett's was Dec 11.
Our Christmas Day dinner brought
42 people together at the R.V Park
Lounge.
Visitors from out of town were
Tim and Therese Wohler and their
four children from Wichita,
Kansas, visiting the Lents'; Roceil
Watson's brother Delbert Funney
and his wife Ethel from Oklahoma;
and Thelma and George, also from
Oklahoma. Martha Kirk also vis-
ited her parents Chuck and Lillian
Kirk during the month of Decem-
ber. This is Martha's third visit
down here, and she always hates
leaving.
Some highlights of the season so
far included the Pos;;ida celebration
which took place Dec. 16. The first
night, sponsored by La Loma Rio
R.V. Park, turned out to be a lively
and beautiful celebration.
The candlelit procession started
at the foot of the hill and proceeded
down the driveway lined with
"luminarias". Christmas carols
were sung and upon arriving at the
main building, the reenactment of
Mary and Joseph's pilgrimmage
asking for lodging took place.
Finally, they were let in and
everyone joined in_the singing and
celebration, and even a pinat^jvas"
featured.
Several people from the sur-
rounding area participated, in-
cluding Mrs. Dorothy Anderson and
her grandson Doug from Rio

This is the way our new park
roster reads: Newcomers- Irene
and Cliff Jarrett from Salina,
Kansas. They were here last year
to check us out, liked us, and came
back this year Buddy Fraedrich
from Slinger, Wisconsin is new this
year, and so are the Owens' from
Wellington, Nevada. Bob and
Evelyn Leikens from Chagrin,
Ohio, and John and Joan Van
Buren are with us for a second
term.
The Millirons, Paul and Joanne
and Vela Wenning from Shelby,
Ohio are with us for the third
season. The Shucks', Ellis and
Alice, always manage to come stay
with us for some time during the
winter Roceil and Kenneth Watson
from Michigan are old timers at
the park, followed by Chuck and
Lillian Kirk, also of Michigan.
Ray and Vera Bielby from
Wyandotte, Michigan are with us
for their third year. Barney
Graham from Colorado, our golfers
Rosetta and Charlie Kazda from
Wisconsin, and Andy and Noni
Crombie from Nebraska are spen-
ding their fourth season in Starr
County.
Andy and most of the people
mentioned claim it's nice (o walk
into places of business and be
recognized 'rom the previous
years. In fact, Andy has been here
so long he reports to Rosita Gravel
every Friday for his pay check.
You see, Andy is a rock hound, he
cleans the gravel pit of all the
pretty gems and expects to get
paid for it.
As we've said before, there are
few dull moments if you can learn
to laugh at yourself. Joan Van
Buren wondered why Vera's car
seat had all of a sudden become
quite lumpy, only to find out she
wsa sitting on Penny's (the park
mascot) dogbone.
The Watsons keep checking the
progress on the new resort area
across in Guerrero. It's being built
out of old car batteries, roadway
fences, and buildings.
Last but not least, January
started with a bang. The New
Year's Eve Party started at 8:30
p.m., and ended at midnight. There
were more birthday celebrations to
end the year and to start it.
Lillian Kirk's birthday was Dec
29, and Kenneth Watson's was Dec
23, and Matthew Brown's was Jan.
1 What more can we say? We are
looking forward to a great year,
and we all at La Loma Rio R.V.
Park WISH EACH AND EVERY
ONE OF YOU A HAPPY AND
PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
