Roma Jr. High Student
Wins Poster Contest
The Roma Jr. High administra-
tion announces Domingo Toscano
as first place winner for his age
category of the National Reading is
Fundamental (R.I.F.) Poster Con-
test.
Roma Jr. High students, thanks
to the R.I.F. program which offers
free books for students to read,
participated in a local poster
contest. The object of the contest
was to encourage students to read
more during the spare time and to
enter in a poster contest. Students
were to use the theme "The Joy of
Reading" in drawing their posters.
Domingo's poster was judged the
local winner and submitted to
national headquarters for competi-
tion.
Domingo Toscano, an eighth
grader, joined other national con-
testants in participating by draw-
ing a poster depicting "The Joy of
Reading" through Abraham Lin-
coln and a small child reading.
Domingo will be receiving $100
(dollar) savings bond, and a $100
check for his school to purchase
more reading materials for the
future. The sponsor for the national
contest was Hallmark Greeting
Cards.
Raul Munoz, the Roma Jr. High
Principal, thanked all the local
participants, and especially con-
gratulated Domingo and his
parents.

be "singing sands" because they
can make what seems a harplike
sound when masses of them tum-

future by the past."

seven bean bag throw games,
which were donated to Immaculate
Conception School to be used for
fund-raising projects or rainy-day
indoor games.
Each boy worked alongside his
fellow scouts by hammering, nail-
ing, driving screws and painting.
Thanks were expressed to Gil-
bert" Trejo and Zarsky's Lumber

On Friday, Feb. 13, the scouts
had a fun practice incorporating
the bean bag throws for kinder thru
