For over a year, Sister Betty
Keegan, F.M.M., has !"een in-
terviewing descendants of the orig-
inal families that had settled in Los
Saenz and Roma over 200 years
ago.
The goal of the research was to
learn about the rich history of this
area and to share it with the
students.
As the study coincides with the
celebration of the Sesquicentennial
Anniversary of the statehood of
Texas, the project has evolved into
a bilingual slide-dramatization
show entHled "Roma Today, Roma
Yesterday."
Two showings, at 3 and 5 p.m..
are scheduled for Sunday, April 27,
at the Guerra Auditorium in Roma.
While many people have already
contritu^ed generously by sharing
their family history, photos, docu-
ments and heirlooms, more im-
mediate assistance is needed for
the actual production.
Volunteers can help with the
following: design costumes, sew
costumes, paint scenery, construct
props, type and print the program,
set up and operate audio-visual
equipment, prepare the refresh-
ments, and set them up for the
performers. Money for supplies is
also needed.
Any individual, group, or busi-
ness that would like to volunteer
their services to make this Ses-
quicentennial celebration a suc-
cess, is urged to call 849-2762 or
849-1246, ask for Emma Vera, and
leave their name and phone
number.

A short report on Barbados was a
reminder that this small island,
which is 21 miles long and 14 miles
wide is the tourist center of the
Caribbean. Local farming in-
dustries of sugar and cotton and its
products of molasses and rum have
been replaced by light industry,
such as light bulbs.
A number of members wore
authentic Mexican costumes to
honor our neighboring country.
Mrs Rosario Frias de Olague from
Miguel Aleman had some of her
students demonstrate the dances of
Aguas Calientes, Jalisco, and
Tamaulipas.
For the dance of the cocks the
dresses were embroidered and
trimmed with sequins, for the
dance of the grapes, the full skirts
had purple bunches of grapes The
Tamaulipas dancers wore the tight
fitting short leather dress of the
region
Freddie Vitlacencia of Miguel
Aleman enthralled his audience
with songs demonstrating their
variety. There are primitive, re-
ligious ballads, revolutionary.
dance and love songs. Some of
these have become classics. F

in the decorations of the room with
rugs, baskets, pottery, laces and
woven materials.
