this past year. The group has held
bake sales, car washes, plate sales,
and clean up days in order to raise
the funds needed to sponsor the
camp.
According to the Elkins, at the
camp the teens were divided into
four smaller groups, called fami
lies, where they became involved
in role playing of different topics,
such as family conflicts and
communications.
Aissa Guerra, of Garciasville.
said "It was a very good experi
ence, much better than I
expected."
A great deal of credit to the
camp success, said Elkins, goes to
the area adults that helped and
care about our area teens. They
were: Emma Falcon, Orpha Lopez,
Gracie Cuerra, Martha Blanco,
Ruth Blanco, Alma Bazan, Annette
Elkins, David Gonzalez, and Rich-
ard Elkins.
The group continues to meet
weekly on Wednesday night from
7:00 to 8:30 at the old hospital at
the corner of Forth and Washington
Street. Elkins stated that the group
has several planned activities
coming up. including a trip to
Dallas to attend an SMU football
game.
Elkins said, "the weekly meet-
ings gives the area youth a regular
opportunity to grow in their
spiritual lives and to be with other
teens for a fun time."
Manuel Martinez, of Roma and
newly elected president, said "Our
group has several goals for their
next year and I invite any area
youth that would like to be a part
of our group to come and check out
the group any Wednesday night at
7:00 p.m at the corner of 4th and
Washington St. in Rio Grande
