and hard work has been displayed by the
Rio Grande City High School Rattler Band.
The Band has beer, preparing for Pigskin
Jubilee which will be held at McAllen
Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 6. The
Rattler Band will perform at 5:00 p.m. and
will be the first 4-A band to perform.
The Rattler Band staff, officers, and band

Sixth Graders Tour
Historical Sites
Approximately 280 sixth grade students
were taken on field trips throughout October
to the historical areas of Rio Grande Cityj
according to R.C. Salinas Jr., Principal of
Ringgold Junior High School.
The trips were conducted on four different
dates and sponsored by the Social Studies
Department under the leadership of its
chairperson Estella Hernandez.
The students were given briefings prior to
leaving school about the early history of Rio
Grande City as it developed from Rancho
Carnestolendas, to Rancho de la Garz?v
Rancho Davis, Davis landing. Rio Grande
and finally Rio Grande City.
Special features included a tour of old
David Landing, visits to the first house (Old
Ceballos Funeral Home) the Monuments at
Britton Bovlevard, a steamboat post and the
Grotto of Loundes. Also, the groups visited
the two oldest cemetaries of the com-
munity to see the graves of famous people in
the area's history and unique grave sites.
Salinas stated that those students with
straight A averages in Social Studies or who
had shown particular aptitude > during
the trip in art work with their drawings
would be taken on a special tour of the
I^abonde House and a dinner with a speaker
at a local restaurant.
He estimated that some 40 students would
qualify. Finally Salinas said that his social
studies department would make available
the same program to Immacualte Con-
ception sixth grade students.
