Life Adds
Halloween
Flavor
No-Bake Trick or Treats literally add
Life-Life cereal-to your Halloween
festivities, says Elva Yolanda Scrivner
CEA-H.E... Serve these crucnhy, maple-
butterscotch squares with apple cider to
your hungry young gh ."ts and goblins.
They are the kind of treats you'll love for
them to eat!
NO-BAKE TRICK OR TREATS
3 cups Life cereal
Vz cup peanuts
Vz cup maple flavored
table syrup
1 3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
or margarine
One 6-oz pkg. butterscotch
flavored pieces
Grease 8-inch square baking pan. In
medium bowl, combine cereal and nuts. In
small saucepan, combine syrup, sugar and
butter; bring to a full rolling boil over
medium-high heat. Reduce heat; boil 2
minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from
heat. Add butterscotch pieces, mixing until
melted. Immediately pour over cereal
mixture, mixing to coat well. Firmly press
into prepared pan. Chill several hours or
until several hours or until set. Cut into
squares. Store in tightly covered container
in refrigerator. Makes 8-inch square pan of
no-bake cookies.
Senational and sensible!

Fleeting thoughts on the future and one's
destiny: does one choose to live or die - or
does destiny take care of it all for everyone?
Betto de Roma ponders these doubts as he
comes "across a path, well-trodden."
THOUGHTS AFTER LYFORD'S "A"
I walk through grass, on clovers, by trees,
By buildings' windows and everyone sees
I come 'cross a path, well-trodden, like
Frost
My gaze is then lifted up away from the
lost;
Should I focus ahead? Not below? Not on
dead?
Dwell not on the route but the destiny in-
stead?
Such questions engulf me and blind me for
sure;
As I try to answer their tempers obscure;
The path, well-trodden, invites me to hurry:
Will foliage appear? Is that cause to
worry?

THE RIO GRAtfDE HERALD THURSDAY. OCTOBER 28. 1982 PAGE 2

Education Department and is attending
PAU, majoring in Criminal Justice.
Gettin'
Around
This week Rev. and Mrs. James L.
Gebhart of Rio Grande City, returned from
Woodsboro, Texas, where they attended the
funeral of their infant grandson, Adam Lane
Gebhart, who was born October 12, 1982 to
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel L. Gebhart of Wood-
sboro.
Accompanying Rev. and Mrs. Gebhart
was the infant's great-grandmother, Mrs.
Elbert Killion of Foley, Alabama, who is
visiting her son, Rev. Gebhart, in Rio
Grande City.
Friends: The subject is one everyone
believes in and counts on; Betto de Roma
attempts to clarify just what friends are
with the almost unbelievable analogy that
"Fishtanks and friends are the same."
FISIITANKS AND F RIENDS
Fishtanks and friends are the same:
They sustain you when lame
You feed them when they need
Laugh at each funny deed
You cleanse them time to time
Watch to keep them from crime
Offer breathing life: sharing
Hold indefinite life: caring
They don't lie—
"They were great": our tears do claim;
For us they die:
Fishtanks and Friends are the same.

"investment dressing" is
a term found in most fashion
magazines and dress-for-
success articles, explains
Yolanda Scrivner-CEA-H.E.
with the Texas Agricultural
Extension Service Texas
A&M University System.
A clothing shopping trip
often convinces the potential
buyer that purchasing a new
wardrobe can be a major
investment. Therefore,
clothing items selected need
to have good performance,
versatility and durability,
Scrivner emphasizes.
"Instead of completely
disregarding a garment-
such as a wool blend-wv:ch
may be higher priced
initially, consider the cost of
each wearing as an in-
vestment. Buying a better
quality garment that will be
comfortable, resist
wrinkling, be durable, at-
tractive and versatile may
be a much wiser purchase,"
she says.
Consider how long you
think the garment will be
fashionable or wearable, and
the total cost of upkeep.
Multiply this by how many
time you might wear the
garment. Then divide this
figure into the total price of
the garment.
"It may well be that a
more expensive garment
will be the best purchase,
when compared in this
manner," Scrivner says.
High quality clothing that
lasts for more than one year
can easily be updated
seasonally with new ac-
cessories, she adds. Ac-
cessories are usually less
expensive than a
replacement garment.
"With fashion emphasis
returning to looks that were
popular in the past and much
interest in natural fibers, we
see more emphasis
fashionwide toward fabrics
that are made of natural
fibers
