FmHA Juggl es Interest Rates
The Farmers Home Administration , the
rural credit agency of the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, has reduced some of its in-
terest rates and increased other, according
to Administrator Charles W. Shuman.
The rate for insured operating loans was
reduced to 14.25 percent from 14.50 percent;
limited resource operating loans were
lowered to 11.25 percent from 11.50, and the
limited resource loan rate was reduced to
6.625 epercent from 7.
Shuman said the reductions were made
because the interest rates are based on the
cost to the U.S. Treasury of borrowing
money , and short-term interest has been
declining.
Rates for two other loan programs, which
are based on the costs of comparable loans
in the private market, were raised to 16
percent from 15 percent.
Those were for annual production loans
and operating adjustment loans under the
disaster emergency program.
Other interest rates at the agency remain
the same.

Heat
and cool
your home more
efficiently with
a heat pump.
That's right . It's easy to he misled by the name, hut an electric
heat pump actually provides air conditioning a.s well as healing—and does
both more efficiently than am other combination unit on the market today.
This year-round comfort system is an especially good choice for South
Texas, because the heat pump operates most economically in regions with
relatively mild winters In this area served by taitral Power and light Gom-
pany, a properly installed heat pump can deliver ai least 2 V2 BIT'S of heat
for every HTI of energy needed to run it.
And that, of course, means you save both electricity and money !
There's an easy explanation for the heat pump's high efficiency rating: it
simply mures heat—and that s a less expensive process than making heat,
as gas and other conventional systems must do In the winter, a heat pump
extracts heat from the outside air and brings it inside. In the summer, it
removes heat from the interior, thus air conditioning and dehumidifying your
home
If you're buying or building a new house, a heat pump should head the
list of priority items you want to include
Or you might want to consider increasing the efficiency of the healing and
cooling system in your present home with a heat pump No matter what kind
of unit you have now. addition of a high-efficiency heat pump will save
energy
