Round Table Studies Bolivia
Bolivia was the topic of the program at the
regular meeting of the Rio Grande City-
Roma Pan American Round Table held
Tuesday night at the Brass Bull. Mrs.
Gerhard Waaser, director, presided during
the business meeting.
Mrs. Alfredo Laurel presented the Altiplano, Fiesta Costumes, Exquisite
program and gave short, statistical data on Native Costumes, Way of life, and Native
Bolivia. Dancers.
The speaker showed slides of six Members of the program committee were
categories as follows: Bolivia's Tiahuanaco, Miss Evangelina Campos. Mrs. Ignacio
life around lake Titicaca, People from Gutierrez and Miss Evarista Madrigal.
During the business meeting, Mrs.
Alfredo Laurel called roll and read the
minutes of the previous meeting.
Mrs. Waaser commented on the lovely
installation meeting of the Pan Ainerian
Round Table of Ciudad Miguel Aleman,
Texas Migrant Council, Inc.
Announces the sponsorship of the CHILD CARE
FOOD program. All children in attendance will be
offered the same meal with no physical segregation
of or other discrimination against any child because
of race, color, sex, national irigin or ability to pay.
This statement applies to the center and/or
Day Home listed below.

Mexico held in early October at the Rancho
Grande in Miguel Aleman, Mex. During the
meeting, Mrs. R.R. Guerra was presented
as a guest of honor and was presented with
a diploma in recognition of being the Pan
American Woman of the Alliance. Several
local members attended this meeting.
The November meeting will feature a
program on Brazil. Mrs. J.M. Yzaguirre
and Mrs. Arturo 0. Trevino Jr. are in
charge of this program.

The Starr Co. Historical Commission met
Oct. 26 at 7:15 p.m. in the County Com-
missioners' Courtroom at the Courthouse.
Present were chairman, Abel Porras,
members George Edgerton, George Boyle,
Sue Edgerton, Susan Barry and newly
appointed members Estella Contreras and
Elias Guerrero. Also attending was guest,
Carmen Garza.
Newly chosen officers were S. Barry,
vice-chairman; E. Guerrero, treasurer and
G. Boyle, secretary.
The group discussed identification of
historical architecture and /or cultural
buildings in Starr County, which owners
may wish to preserve and which may be
eligible for possible restoration funding,
public or private, as individual buildings or
as part of a historic district.
In honor of Mrs. Florence J. Scott,
longtime Starr County historian, school
superintendent and civic leader (see related
story), two of her notable history books
were made available for members present
at the meeting.
Revised and reprinted by the Texas
Press, Waco, in 1969 and 1966, they were:
"Old Rough and Ready on the Rio Grande,"
1935, the Story of Gen Zachary taye
Mexican-American War fame, whose ac-
tions helped determine United States
sovereignty as far as the Rio Grande River;
and 'Historical Heritage of the Rio Gran-
de," 1937, which was the story of settlements
along the river under Jose Escandon, Count
of Sierra Gorada, Camargo and Car-
nestolendas Ranch area (Rio Grande Cit'-
Mier, etc. and the porciones or Spanish land
grants.
The meeting adjourned with plans ofr the
next month's meeting again on the last
Monday (Nov. 30) at the courthouse at 7:15
p.m.
