City High School Science Club went on
a field trip to the Gladys Porter Zoo and
toured the 32 acre premises which has many
exotic animals from all over the world. The
second stop on their fuli day itinerary was
the Pan American University Marine
Biology laboratory on South Padre 1 Island.
Here the club received a guided tour by Dr.
S. Sorenson, professor of marine ibiology.
Then the club had a barbecue on the beach
at South Padre Island to finish off the long
day and return back to RGC. Members
making the trip were Belinda Gonzales,
Judy Garza, Leo Olivares, Amaro Salinas,
Luisa Villarreal, Ijliana Guerra, Luis

four young people at the First United
Methodist Church. During the Mother's
Day service conducted by the Rev. Hans
Raj, they were confirmed in their faith.

confirmed by the Rev. Raj and presented
with bibles by David I-aGrange.

It's a boy! Mr. and Mrs. Baltazar Reyes
of I.a Grulla are the proud parents of a son.
Juan Angel was born at 8:37 a.m. on Mon-
day, May 4. He weighed in at 9 lbs., 2 ozs. on
his arrival at Starr County Memorial
Hospital.
It's a girl! Mr. and Mrs. Jose Alfredo
Sanchez are the proud parents of a
daughter. Saira Mireya made her arrival at
Starr County Memorial Hospital at 10:42
p.m. on Friday, May 8. She weighed in at 5
lbs., 131 a ozs.
The American Cancer Society, Starr
County Unit, will be conducting their door-
to-door drive this Saturday, May 23, ac-
cording to the President, Elvira Canales of
Salineno. Crusade Chairman Mickey
Longoria announced that members of the
RGCHS Student Council, headed by Roberto
Garcia, would be doing the collecting, which
will culminate at the San Juan Plaza. Be
ready to open your door and your pocket-
book for these willing workers!
Congratulations to Jose Vela of El Tanque
Ranch. He was the lucky winner of the
drawing for a Whirlpool dishwasher May 9
at Triple L. Furniture Store.
Mr. and Mrs. I-auro L. Ix>pez congratulate
Jose and thank everyone who participated
in the drawing.
The Parent Teacher Organization of the
Immaculate Conception School met on
Tuesday, May 12, at the Parish Hall for the
final meeting of the school year. President
Roy Cantu presided, with reports heard on
the recent jamaica, barbecue, and raffle.
Plans for the Summer and ongoing projects
were also discussed. End-of-year activities
were announced by Ray Carlos Garcia,
principal, who thanked a committee of
mothers for projects resulting in the pur-
chase of a laminating machine and
basketball backboards for the school.
Recognized were Becky Canales, Lesbia
Gonzalez, Ainada Garcia, Nori Galindo,
Adelina G. Ixjpez, Bibi Rivera, Rebecca
Villarreal, and Margarita Garza. He ex-
pressed gratitude for their work and for the
cooperation of all the parents in school
projects. Garcia concluded, "When the
going gets rough you begin to wonder if it is
worth it, take it from one who has been with
ICS as a student, teacher and principal. It's
all worth it!" Father Nash thanked Mr.
Garcia, the parents, and the teachers for a
very successful year and closed the meeting
with prayer.
Thirteen proved to be a lucky number for
Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Resendez. The Roma
couple have a brand new baby boy born on
Wednesday, May 13, at 8:38 p.m. Gabriel
Jr. made his arrival at Starr County
Memorial Hospital weighing 8 lbs., 9 ozs.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 93 were
recognized for their achievement at a Court
of Honor Friday night, May 15. Earning the
