"Fashion Inspirations"
will set the stage for the 1980
State 4-H Fashion Revue-
and Melissa Ann Ramirez of
San Isidro will be among
those competing for top
honors during the September
17-19 event in Abilene.
Miss Ramirez, a
Sophomore at San Isidro
High School, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Rolando
Ramirez.
The state contestant
earned the right to compete
by winnig first place in
county and district 4-H
Fashion Revue earlier this
year.
For the contests, the 4-
H'er constructed a sundress
;ind matching jacket in
hawaiian print and kaki
linen trimmed in two
colorful parakeets that she
embroidered herself.
Fashion Revue par-
ticipation is an optional part
nf the 4-H and Youth clothing
program, sponsored by the
Texas Agricultural Ex-
tension Service, The Texas
A&M University System,
says Yolanda Scrivner,
Starr County Extension
Agent. More than 11,000
youth across Texas were
involved in the program last
year.
Youth ages 9-19 developed
skills in fashion, textiles,
buying, garment con-
struction, grooming, war-
drobe planning and the
social-psychological aspects
of clothing - as part of the
program, the agent says.
Falcon
Drive
Mrs. John Young of Falcon
Heights raised $24,80 in the
May drive to benefit the
Mental Health Association in
Texas.
Mrs. Young organized
Bellringer marchers to
collect house-to-house
during May, Mental Health
Month.
The Mental Health
Association receives no
government funds. As a
voluntary organization, the
Association relies on private
donations, such as those
collected during the
Bellringer campaign.
Contributions support the
educational and social action
programs of the Mental
Health Association.
"I would personally like to
express my appreciation to
the chairperson and the
people of your community
for your part in promoting
mental health," said John
Stevens, President of the
Mental Health Association in
Texas.
