Girls In Action Receive Awards
A Girls in Action, GA's,
recognition service was held
at the First Baptist Church
in Rio Grande City on
Sunday evening, September
23.
A prelude was played by
pianist Mrs. Roger Williams
preceding a candle lighting
ceremony conducted by the
Girls in Action members.
Tapers at the front of the
church and in the windows
were lit by the GA's.
Greenery surrounded the
base of each candle and
served to decorate the
church sanctuary.
Families of the girls to be
recognized were seated in
front pews marked with
ribbon in the color to be
carried by their daughter.
Tiny ribbons of
corresponding color were
pinned on the mothers.
The Rev. Glen Granger led
those present in an in-
vocation followed by the
processional of the Girls in
Action. GA members were
seated together in one pew,
and those to be recognized
were seated at the front of
the church. Each girl
carried a long stemmed
carnation in her color.
The purposes and goals of
Girls in Action, which are
Cheerleading
Clinic Saturday
mission study and mission
action, were given by Scott
Jordan. Carolyn Jordan then
presented collars, pins, and
badges to the girls who had
completed the appropriate
steps.

i Mitzi) Castillo each told one
of their projects completed
in completing Adventure 1
before receiving their
award.
Mitzi Castillo and Judy
Gabert each told of a
project completed in
achieving Adventure 2
status before receiving their
badges.
Mitzi Castillo and Judy
Gabert told of their activities
in completion of Adventure
3, and they received a badge
for this.
Sandra Chavez received
special recognition for her
achievements and activities.
Mrs. Jordan presented her
with a book.
Foillowing a benediction
by the pastor, and a
recessional accompanied by
the pianist, the girls were
honored at a reception in the
fellowship hall.
Girls in Action helping
with the ushering, can-
dlelighting, and reception
were Priscilla Gonzalez,
Brenda Gabert, Maricela
Villarreal, Dalinda
Sepulveda, Nydia
Sepulveda, Diana
Sepulveda, Frances Pena,
Lorraine Fuentes, and
DeAnn Peterson.
Mrs. Jordan and other
church members supplied
the cookies, cake, nuts,
mints, and punch served at
the reception.

GIRLS IN ACTION HONORED- A recognition
service was held Sunday evening, September 23, at the
First Baptist Church of Rio Grande City by the Girls in
Action, GA's. Four members recieved special
recognition during the service. Other members
participated in the ushering, the candlelighting
ceremony, and in the reception following. GA leaders
Carolyn and Scott Jordan led the recognition program
Girls in Action are Priscilla Gonzalez, Brenda Gabert,
Maricela Villarreal, Dalinda Sepulveda, Nydia
Sepulveda, Diana Sepulveda, Frances Pena, Lorraine
Fuentes, DeAnn Peterson, and I,ori Peterson, who
received her Adventure 1 badge. GA's who have
completed Adventures 1,2 and 3 are Mitzie Castillo and
Judy Gabert. Also recognized was Sandra Chavez.

Starr County Memorial Hospital of Rio Grande City,
Texas will make available from October 1, 1979 thru
September 30, 1980 $35,000.00 Hill-Burton Charity
Care. Charity Care will be available on a first
request basis to eligible persons needing care who
are unable to pay for Hospital services until the
facilities annual compliance level is met. Eligibility
for charity care will be limited to persons whose
family income is not more than the current poverty
level income guidelines established by the Com-
munity Services Administration. This notice is
publibhed in accordance with 42 C.F.R. 124.505 Notice
of Availabilits of Uncompensated Services.

CAKEWALK PREPARED- The Immaculate Conception School Fall Festival
will be held this weekend. There is a dance Friday with "Snowball" at the KC H.iU; a
chicken barbeque at the high school cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday; and a
Jamaica starting at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Parish Hall grounds. A disco dance is
scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday. Here Fred Ruiz paints the cakewalk in preparation for
the festival.

Weekend Ahead

Comptroller Bob Bullock
will have a respresentative
in Rio Grande City on that
date to meet with local
taxpayers from 9:00 a.m. to
12:00 noon and from 1:00
p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Starr
County Courthouse.
The first big sports
weekend of the season will
unfold this weekend for the
Texas A&I squads. Football,
volleyball, cross country and
soccer action is slated.
On the home front, the
volleyball team will host a
tournament Friday and
Saturday in the Steinke
Physical Education Center.
Pla> begins Friday af-
ternoon and continues
through Saturday.
The Javelina football team
will be in San Antonio
Saturday night to take on
Texas Southern. Game time
will be 7:30 p.m. in Alamo
Stadium.
The A&I cross country and
soccer teams will be in
Abilene. The soccer unit will
enter the Hardin-Simnmons
University invitational
tournament Friday and
Saturday. The Javelinas
meet Metropolitan State of
Colorado at 10 a.m. Friday in
a first round match.
