Fabric And Fashion Trends
For Spring, 19 78
Trends for spring fashion
are very soft and romantic,
reports Yolanda Scrivner,
County Extension Agent.
The latest movement is in
the ultra soft dressing - fuller
and looser than the chemise -
in fabrics that flirt with the
body always airy and fluid.
Fabrics for spring will also
be light airy and soft with
suitable textures with the
natural fibers being the most
popular. Old fashion looks in
Challis in floral prints and
paisleys, and feminine looks
in eyelet and lace, soft looks
in gauze, sheer lens weaves
and muslin facilitate the soft
look in dressing.
Romantic dressing can be
achieved through several
ways. One is to think in-
nocent, soft and sweet
when selecting garments
and accessories. Design
details such as drawstrings,
dolman, loose or puffed
sleeves fluttering necklines,
ruffles, pleating, tucks, and
pierrot or shawl collars also
help set the romance mood

in garments.
"Romai.uc Dressing'' can
be achieved with flirty trims
such as lace insets, ap-
pliques, ribbons, bows,
delicate embroidery and
faggoting.
The boyish-stern fashion
trend is on the way out. Most
designers such as Willie
Smith, Geoffrey Beane and
Carol Horn from New York
are trying to create soft
feminine fashions for 78. Soft
garment silhouetts are
achieved by slimmed pant
legs, bare and tropical
sundresses, peasant dresses,
loosely constructed blazers,
jackets and sportswear,
frilly blouses, circular, full,
tiered or pleated skirts, and
biouson blouses and dresses.
