Remington model 700 ADL270
rifle for his first place finish in

Second place goes to 68 year
old Fermin Olivarez from Agua

his 168 lb. deer at his ranch in
Jim Hogg County. He is the
winner of a Remington 22
automatic rifle for the Weight

all its horns fully velveted. It

right antler was 8 l/ 2 inches
each and it had a total of 22
points, but only 19 points were

IRS Offers Free Aid
To Taxpayers
McALLEN, TEXAS -
Knowing where to find help with
your tax return is particularly
important this year because of
the many law changes which
affect 1976 tax returns. For
example, changes were made
regarding child care expenses,
income received during
retirement, disability pay, and
business use of a home.
Santos Galvan, Director's
Representative for the McAllen
Internal Revenue Service Of-
fice. said that tax help is
available at the local office
from 8:00-11:30 A.M. and 12:15
- 4:30 P.M. Mondays through
Fridays for persons who need
individual assistance. The
office is located in the Federal
Office Building at Main Street &
East Chicago Avenue.
"The quickest and handiest
source of IRS tax information is
the tax forms package mailed
to taxpayers," he said. In ad-
dition to answering many
questions, the tax package
includes order blanks for ob-
taining free publications.
He pointed out that the
publications cover a variety of
topics, including medical
deductions, charitable con-
tributions. tax benefits for older
Americans, alimony payments,
the Earned Income Credit, and
how to apply for an extension of
time to file.
The IRS also provides help
over the telephone for tax-
payers who cannot find answers
to questions in their tax
package. Toll-free telephone
numbers for IRS offices are
listed in the packages. The
numbers are also listed in
telephone directories. Look
under "U. S. Government" in
the white pages and find
"Federal Tax Information."
Farmers and fishermen who
have not filed their 1976
declaration of estimated
Federal income tax must file
and pay that tax by Monday.

Diaz To Purchase
KMBS Station
Pete Diaz, Jr. of Rio Grande
City has a contract to purchase
Radio Station KMBS out of
Harlingen, subject to approval
by the Federal Com-
munications Commission.
KMBS is found on the dial at
96 FM. It is a 100,000 watt stereo
station operating twenty-four
hours a day in the Spanish
language.
Diaz stated that it is the only
station in the valley with a
direct line from Starr County.
Anvone may call the station toll
free by dialing 1-383-2611.
General Manager of the
station is Martin Rosalez, who
was approved by the station's
present board and Mrs. F lossie
McBride and associates, the
present owners.
Diaz states that he intends to
keep Rosalez and his staff after
ownership is completed, plus he
plans to add more personnel. He
also intends to sell stock in the
radio station after purchase
approval is granted by the FCC.
Governor Approves
Starr Grant
Homemaking Class At Rio High
AUSTIN - Governor Dolph
Briscoe has approved a $21,031
criminal justice grant to Starr
County.
The grant provides second
year funding of a staffing
project for the District Attorney
of the 229th Judicial District.
The local grant is among 116
approved by Governor Briscoe
statewide from Law En-
forcement Assistance Ad-
ministration (LEAA) funds
under the Crime Control Act of
1976.
January 17. The sole exception
to this rule is if they file their
income tax return and pay the
total tax due by March 1, the
Internal Revenue Service said
today.
Farmers and fishermen are
defined as those persons who
earned at least two-thirds of
their 1976 gross income from
farming or fishing.
IRS Publications 225,
"Farmer's Tax Guide," 595.
"Tax Guide for Commercial
Fishermen," and 505, "Tax
Withholding and Declaration of
Estimated Tax." provide ad-
ditional information and are
available free at local IRS of-
fices.
Many people who do not have
enough taxes withheld are
required to pay their final in-
stallment of 1976 estimated
Federal income tax no later
than Monday. January 17. Also
due the same day are amended
estimates from those whose 1976
income changed substantially
during the last quarter.
Many taxpayers first met the
requirements for filing a tax
declaration during the last
three months of 1976, according
to the Internal Revenue Ser-
vice. Taxpayers are generally
required to file an estimate if
they owe the IRS more than $100
not covered by withholding. The
estimates in this case are due
January 17.
There is one exception of this
rule, the IRS said, and that's
when taxpayers file their
returns and pay all taxes due by
January 31. In that case the
final 1976 installment is not
required. the amended
declaration is not required nor
is an original January 17
declaration required.
IRS Publication 505, "Tax
Withholding and Declaration of
Estimated Tax." provides -
additional information and may
be obtained free from local IRS
offices.
