The Rio Grande City High

William A. Ward wrote these words of wisdom: "The late Jack
Benny once remarked on accepting an award, 'I don't deserve this,
but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either.' Perhaps we can
turn this clever observation around and say, 'I don't deserve this
difficulty, but I have many blessings for which to be grateful, and I
don't deserve them either.' We can often say, 'I don't deserve this
adversity, but neither do I deserve the priceless gift of life.' All of
us can say, 'Probably I don't deserve this disappointment, but
neither do I deserve the wonderful friends that always stand by me
when I need them the most.' Let's learn to be thankful for
everything, even the undesirable things we don't deserve and
especially the beautiful things we don't deserve."
Miss Juanita Garcia from Del Rio was honored at a Sherry Party
in the home of her fiance's mother, Mrs. Carmen S. Garza, on
Sunday, June 6. Miss Garcia and Arturo H. Garza plan a July 11
wedding in Del Rio. Hostesses for the party were Mrs. Carmen S.
Garza, Mrs. Fidelio Guerra, Jr., Mrs. Alberto Cardenas, Mrs.
Romeo B. Saldana. and Miss Ida Garza. Several arrangements of
spring flowers adorned the central serving area. The honoree, her-
mother, Mrs. Antonio R. Garcia, and the hostess, Mrs. Garza, wore
similar corsages of sweetheart roses and spring flowers. The
guests were served cake, cheese and crackers, mints, nuts, a fruit
plate of watermelon and cantaloupe balls with strawberries, and
sherry.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller Smedley of Rio Grande City were notified
that their son, John Srnedley, has been recognized as a
Distinguished Student for the spring semester at Texas A&M
University in College Station. John is a senior majoring in Health
and Physical Education and earned a 3.6 average to receive this
scholastic honor. John took time out from his studies at A&M to
attend spring graduation at Rio Grande City High School and watch
his brother, Joe David, receive his diploma.

CATFISH IS CREAMED
NEW YORK - Pitcher
Catfish Hunter of the New York
