Fighting Rattler Band Rates 1 At Jubilee
The Rio Grande City High
School marching band brought
home a first division rating for
the second straight year from
the annual Pigskin Jubilee
Marching Contest held at
Barbee Stadium in Weslaco on
Saturday, November 15.
"War and Peace" was the
theme for the Rio band's show.
Different numbers were played
depicting the Revolutionary
War, Civil War, World Wars,
and up to Vietnam, with at long
last our years of being at Peace
and without war.
There were twenty-one bands
competing in the inarching
contests, and Adjudicators
were Mr. Roberto Botello, Band
Director at Martin High School
in Laredo; Edward Zamora,
Band Director at Calhoun High
School in Pori. I^avaca; and
John Bridge, Band Director
from San Antonio.
Each band was judged
against set standards instead of
competing against each other.
Ratings were from one to five,
with First being Superior;
Second being Excellent; Third
being Fair; Fourth being Good;
and Fifth being Poor.
Some of the Judges com-
ments regarding Rio's per-
formance follow. Roberto
Botello said, "Exciting per-
formance. Be proud of your
hard work and efforts. General
effect- great! General ap-
pearance- great! General
discipline- great! Good mar-
ching style. Trumpet solo
deserves congratulations."
John Bridges added, "This
was a show that had all the
ingredients for success. Great

snap and style. A musical band-
l>eautiful! Great sounds. Shows
the results of fine teaching,
great concept. Obviously a well-
disciplined, spirited group!"
Edward Zamora commented,
"Beautiful sound on field.
Excellent use of drums.
Beautiful cornet solo. A
tremendous job of putting this
beautiful, inspiring show
together. I appreciate your
patriotic show display. You
demonstrate great pride,
dignity, and spirit- your
discipline is superb. This is a
great band. You show much
hard work and excellent
training. Rio Grande City
should be proud of this
tremendous organization.
Nicolas Gonzalez, Rio Grande
City High School Band Director,
congratulates the band students
for their excellent work and
adds his compliments to two
students for individual per-
formances.
Reymundo Gonzales, first
Chair trumpet, did a superior
job of performing "I>et There
Be Peace on Earth."
Reymundo was the only soloist,
and he performed under great
pressure with a packed stadium
in Weslaco. A lot of confidence
and self-discipline was required
for this superior performance.
Rene Villarreal has also done
a great job as Drum Major after
taking over at the Crystal City
game and continuing to do a
superb job all the way to the
first division rating at Pigskin

It was found on the property
of Liborio Hinojosa, owner of
