MARINE GRADUATE-Marine
Private Cipriano Garcia Jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Cipriano
Garcia of 1543 W. Third St., Rio
Grande City, Tex., was
graduated from recruit training
at the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot, San Diego. Physical
conditioning, discipline and
teamwork are emphasized
during Marine recruit training.
Classes include instruction in
close order drill, Marine Corps
history, first aid, uniform
regulations and military
customs and courtesies.

SAN ANTONIO—A Rio
Grande City, Tex., man has
graduated at Lackland AFB,
Tex., from the technical
training course for U.S. Air
Force security police.
Airman Homer R. Baxter III,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer R.
Baxter Jr. of 209 N. West St.,
Rio Grande City, was trained in
security and law enforcement.
The airman will remain at
Lackland for further training.
Airman Baxter is a 1975
graduate of Rio Grande City
High School.
On Saturday, September 20,
at 1:00 p.m., an Officers
Training School was held for 4-
, H and other youth club officers
at the Multipurpose Center in
Rio Grande City.
The school, sponsored jointly
by the Starr County 4-H Council
and Central Power and Light
Company, was held in order to
provide 4-Hers and members of
youth organizations an op-
portunity to develop leadership
abilities.
The training sessions gave
the youth an opportunity to gain
knowledge and understanding
related to their specific duties
and responsibilities as elected
club officers and provided an
opportunity for the exchange of
ideas between 4-H clubs and
other youth organizations. The
training school also aided in the
development of community
spirit among youth
organizations to build toward
improving their communities
and fostering good citizenship.
Bruce Miller, special guest
speaker and Agricultural
Representative for CP&L,
spoke on how to develop
leadership abilities. "Leaders
are made, not born," said
Miller. "A good leader is a good
communicator, is friendly, and
has enthusiasm."
Master of Ceremonies for the
program was Victor Vicinaiz.
Opening ceremonies were led
by Cindy Hinojosa. Willie
Rodriguez gave the Welcome
and stated the purpose of the
training school.
Nidia Garcia introduced
special speaker Miller, who
addressed the students on
"What is Leadership?"
"Anybody can be a leader if
they want to," asserted Miller,
"but they must be continually
working to develop leadership
skills."
The Resource Speakers who
led the officers' training
sessions were also introduced
by Nidia Garcia, Speakers and
sessions were Bruce Miller,
Presidents, Vice-Presidents,
and Parliamentarians; Rick,
Pinner, CP&L Agricultural
Representative from San
Benito, Treasurers; Mrs.
Bernardo de la Garza,
Secretaries; Mrs. James

session representing the office
each holds in his school or
community organization. After
the group sessions, a youth

gave a report from the training
session.
A recreation party and
refreshments followed the
meeting, with all present
staying to help with the
cleanup.

local youth organizations and

a 1967 Pan American University
graduate and currently director
of Mexican-American Studies
at the University of Colorado,
has been notified that his ar-
ticle, "Luna's Abe Lincoln
Story," has been republished in
the book, "Chieano: The
Beginnings of Bronze Power."
The article first was
published by Winston Press in
"Chieano: The Evolution of A
People."
Dr. Luna is a native of
Edinburg and his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Gustavo A. Luna, still
reside at 309 N. 28th Street,
Edinburg, Texas.
Adolf Eichmann, sentenced
by an Israeli court, was later
hanged for his part in Nazi
murders of millions of Jews in
World War II
