Rio Girl Scouts Attend Camp
Pamela Judith Garza,
Martha Ann Lopez and Norma
Oliana Sanchez, students at
Immaculate Conception School
and members of Junior Girl
Scout Troop 186 from Rio
Grande City, recently received
Girl Scout Scholarships and
attended an exciting and ad-
venturous week of camping
with the Tip of Texas Girl Scout
Council at Camp Lula Sams in
Brownsville, Texas. These girls
were selected as outstanding
girl scouts in their community.
Active troop participation led
them to being selected as
representatives of their troop at
camp. They are the daughters
of Mr. and Mrs. Arturo Garza,
Mr. and Mrs. Romeo Lopez and
Mr. and Mrs. Aurelio Sanchez,
respectively.
Activities for the Junior Girl
Scouts included cookouts,
dramatics, firebuilding, nature
projects, hiking, exploring,
outdoor crafts, swimming,
canoeing, laying trails, use of
tools and work on badges.
Objectives in Girl Scout
Camping include stimulation of
real enjoyment and ap-
preciation of the out of doors
through progressively ad-
ventureous experiences;
providing training in citizenship
through the patrol system of
government and the give and
take of camp living in which
each girl has a part in planning
and carrying out the camping
program with the help of
mature, trained leaders;
Contributing to the physical and
mental well-being of every
camper and helping in the
development of resour-
cefulness, initiative and
reliance; Helping develop
character and helping each girl
grow in her cooperation with
others and helping her grow in
other forms of good behavior;
and stimulating an awareness
of the scope of the natural world
and the need for conservation.
Acceptance and participation
in Girl Scout Camps are the
same for everyone without
regard to race, color or national
origin.
