I^ast week in a telephone interview with our local state Senator
John Treager I asked him how he felt then about the office of
district attorney for the 229th Judicial District.
"I'll recommend whom ever the Governor appoints to fill the
unexpired term of Mr. F. R. Nye although I feel that the Governor
will not appoint Mr. Guerra of Roma to fill out the term," Treager
said.
Treager has been sensitive to the district unlike his announced
opponent, once defeated Oscar Carrillo, and with the troubles that
all that group is having and will be facing in the near future in
Duval I doubt seriously that anyone will go with the machine-
manufactured candidate from Duval.
Treager is strong everywhere in the district, he was at his best
when he defeated Carrillo back then and even stronger now. Back
then Treager wrote his own speeches, was his own fund raiser,
press secretary, organizer, typist, driver, mimeograph operator,
name any function in politics and he has done it; put him in a room
with a desk and a phone and you have a compact but complete
political organization. . .when we need the bill for the hospital
district introduced Treager was the one that carried the ball and
had the bill passed and signed.
Ask Carrillo, how many people he had to check with when he was
up there before he could introduce the same bill and ask him why
he never introduced it. . .I'll tell you why, because he never got the
"HOKA Y" from the EGG and the rest of his "Jefes".
This is not a political endorsement, because the race hasn't even
begun but it makes me pretty damn angry to see a stooly jump in
the race again. . .para puppets, we have enough hanging around
already.
Starr
employees
get raise
The Starr County Com-
missioners Court meeting in a
special session approved pay
hikes for all county employees
except public officials.
Over constant questioning as
to where the money would come
from, County Judge Mario E.
Ramirez reluctantly received
votes for pay hikes from all the
commissioners.
Almost all county employees
received either $50 or $75 raises
during the two hour meeting.
Commissioners objected to
some of the requests from some
of the county offices, some
requesting as much as $400
raises.
When the court finally settled
to a figure almost all county
employees received the 50-75
dollar raises.
In other action the court
received the land from the
government that the county had
requested. The county received
the 173.5 acres and the deed to
the land.
