"Hie age-old motto "Home Sweet Home" is never quite as vivid as
when you have just returned home after being away. The familiar
places ar.d friendly faces of home seem extra special when you
have passed so many unaccustomed places and so many un-seeing
faces. To reunite with friends and once again slip into the every-
day routine which we so often take for granted but which forms the
outline for our lives, makes us glad to be home, sweet home.

A motel in Abilene posted a prayer for "The Stranger within our
Gates" which impressed me greatly. "We hope that God will grant
you peace and rest while you are under our roof. May those you
love be near you in thoughts and dreams. May the business that
brought you our way prosper. May every call you make and every
message you receive add to your joy. When you leave, may your
journey be safe. We are all travelers. From "birth til death" we
travel between the eternities. May these days '>■; pleasant for you,
profitable for society, helpful for those you meet, and a joy to
those who know and love you best."

the sixth grade, encouraged by
a father who loved music and
played the guitar in local bands.
Cortinas received his Bach-
elors degree in music educa-
tion from Texas A&I Univer-
sity in 1972. At the university,
he took part in the A&I march-
ing band, the stage band, and a
saxophone quartet which played
at various other schools. He
was a member of Phi Mu Alpha,
a music fraternity.
George S. Amber son will
serve as choir director and
assistant band director at Rio
Grande City High School as well
as band director!, for grades
six through eight at La Grulla.
This is Amber son's first
year to teach, following his 1973
graduation from Texas A&I U-
niversity with a music educa-
tion degree. At Texas A&I,
Amber son participated in the
band, choir, orchestra, a wood-
wind quartet, a saxophone quar-
tet, and was also a member of
the music fraternity Phi Mu
Alpha.
Amberson's father is the late
George T. Amberson of Laredo,
and his mother, Mrs. Amber-
son, now lives in Arizona. Am-
berson attended Martin High
School in Laredo and was a
member of the band, the choir,
and the National Honor Society.
He graduated from Martin High
School in 1969.
Amberson began his music
studies in the sixth grade when
he learned to play the tenor
saxophone. He also mastered
the oboe and other woodwind
instruments. He enjoys writing
music and playing the guitar
as hobbies.
In their leisure moments,
which are few and far between
for these musical men, t h e
three young bachelors enjoj
many hobbies. Gonzalez espe-
cially enjoys hunting, fishing,
and travelling. Cortinas may
be seen playing tennis or fish-
ing, and Amberson's pasttimes
include reading, walking, bik-
ing, and tennis.
The new band directors agree
that there is much work ahead,
and since better individual
players make a better band,
they plan to pay as much atten-
tion to each student as possi-
ble, get close to their playing
problems, and focus on indivi-
dual improvement and group
cooperation.
