If you have noticed the El
Quiote Gravel Company equip-
ment clearing some property
behind the Mobile Warehouse
on Bridge Road they are the
beginnings of what promises
to be a nursing home.
The thirty to forty bed nurs-
ing home will get under con-
struction as soon as J. M.
Cherna Alvarez gets through
clearing the land.
All-District
Rio Grande City landed quite
a few boys in the 16-AAA All
District selections for base-
ball.
Roel Reyna was chosen the
best in the district's and was
selected first team first base-
man, Ramiro Alcazar was cho-
sen for the first team out-
field, Milo Gonzalez was sel-
ected the district's utility out-
fielder and Cesar Perez and
Praxedis Bazan were honor-
able mention.
Coach Pat Saenz is at the
helm of the high schools base-
ball program.
Girl Scouts
The Tip of Texas Girl Scout
Council will have a day for
camp in Rio Grande City for
Brownies and Juniors.
The day camp will run from
8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day
from June 11 to June 15.
All registered Brownies and
Juniors are urged to attend.
Girl Scouts are invited to
attend. Fees for the event will
be $3.50 for registration for
girl scouts and $4.00 for non
girl scouts.
Registration reservations can
be made by contacting Mrs.
Gallardo at 487-3898. Dead-
line for registration is May
28.
Manager Red Schoendienst of
the St. Louis Cardinals spent
most of his career with the Red
Birds but also played for the
New York Giants and Mil-
waukee Braves
Seven Rio Grande City wom-
en received undergraduate
degrees May 13 from Incarnate
Word College, and one of them
was accorded a standing ova-
tion from the graduates and
faculty as she received her
diploma.
Miss Blanca Rosa Hinojosa,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raul
L. Hinojosa of 305 E. 2nd St.,
an honor student and president
of the 1973 senior class, re-
ceived the bachelor of science
degree in nursing.
Rosie was severely injured
In an auto accident returning to
campus after the Eastsr vaca-
tion and lias been in the Santa
Rosa Hospital in San Antonio
ever since. She left the hospi-
tal just long enough to attend
her graduation, and her cour-
age and determination were met
with a standing ovation from the
graduates and the guests.
Rosie was named to the
freshman honor society, Alpha
Lambda Delta, and was also a
member of the Phi Lambda Chi
nursing sorority, later the
Nursing Students' Association.
She was also named to Who's
Who Among Students in Ameri-
can Colleges and Universities,
was senior representative on
the student government asso-
ciation, served on the Student-
Faculty Board, and was elected
senior class president.

Mrs. Patricia Salinas Garza
and Miss Priscilla Salinas, twin
daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Elias Salinas of 806 W. Water
Street, were one of two sets of
twins in the class of 1973. Mrs.
Garza received the bachelor of
science degree in medical re-
cord administration, and Pris-
cilla earned the bachelor of
science degree In nursing.
Mrs. Garza was a member of
the medical records organiza-
tion, Sigma Rho Lambda for
two years and ;dso served as
its historian. Priscilla was e-
lected to membership in the
Alpha Lambda Delta honor
society in her freshman year.
Miss Amalia Tinoco, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Refugio
Tinoco, Rt. 1, Box 1078, re-
ceived the bachelor of arts
degree.
Mrs. Richard D. (M aria)
Madrigal Scherrer, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Hector Madrigal,
408 E. 5tli St., received t h e
bachelor of arts degree in edu-
cation. Mrs. Scherrer was an
active member of the social
sorority, Alpha Delta Sigma,
serving this year as the vice-
president and previously rep-
resentative cn the Inter-Club
Council. She also served one
year on the student government
association.
Miss Ana Maria Lopez,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Al-
varo Lopez Sr. of 201 East
Third, received the bachelor
of science degree In home
economics education.
Mrs. Adeline Rich Garz.i,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Rich Sr. of 205 S. Flores,
received the bachelor of
science degree in medical re-
cord administration. She was
an active member of the med-
ical records organization,
Sigma Rho Lambda.
Incarnate Word College pre-
sident Sister Margaret Patrice
Slattery conferred 222 under-
graduate and graduate degrees
in evening ceremonies in San
Antonio's Theatre for the Per-
forming Arts.
Dr. John L. McMahon, re-
tiring president of Our Lady of
the Lake College here, deliv-
ered the commencement ad-
dress. He was also presented
a citation from rWC for his
Priscilla Salinas
outstanding academic leader-
ship during his 31-year tenure
as OLL's chief executive.
Earlier that day the tradi-
tional baccalaureate was held
on the college campus, fol-
lowed by a reception for grad-
uates and their families. Rev.
Pascual Otazu, native of Spain
and assistant superior general
of the Benedictine Order in
Rome and a member of the
rWC faculty, delivered the bac-
calaureate homily.
