Tlie Rio Grande City Quarter-
back Club held its annual Foot-
ball Banquet last Thursday at
7:30 in Rio Grande City High
School cafeteria to honor the
Rattlers, who were co-champs
for the 16AAA title this fall.
Master of ceremonies for the
event was Charles LaGrange.
Romeo Lopez led the pledge of
allegiance, and Pat Russell,
junior football player, led the
invocation. Noe R. Sanchez,
president of the Rio Grande City
Quarterback Club gave the offi-
cial welcome.
A lovely meal served by Mrs.
F.V. Ramon and her staff as-
sisted by the high school pep
squad, was followed by the pro-
gram for the evening. Charles
LaGrange introduced special
guests present, administrators,
and the coaching staff. The
athletic director is Ernesto Ve-
la; head football coach, Eliseo
Villarreal; varsity coaches,
Roel Maldonado, George Gom-
ez, Ramiro Villegas, and Patri-
cio Saenz; junior high coaches,
Raymond Martinez, Lee San-
chez, and Roel Gonzalez.
Eliseo Villarreal, head coach,
introduced the varsity players,
and reminded the boys that "You
play to win, and when you win,
your day is better, and you walk
taller."
The junior high players were
introduced by Coach Raymond
Martinez.
Ramiro Villegas presented
the Rio Grande Herald Offen-
sive Player Award to Jose Leon
Garcia, the Rattlers' quarter-
back.
The Rio Grande Herald Defen-
sive Player Award was present-
ed to Fernando Sanchez, a
fre&hman, by Coach Roel Mal-
donado.
Ernilio Gonzalez was present-
ed with the Rattler Heart and
Hustle Award by George Gomez.
Eliseo Villarreal introduced
the all-district players, and Er-
nesto Vela presented a special
award to the Rattler team and
coaches for their outstanding
year as co-champs of the 1G-
AAA District.
The Rattler cheerleaders and
their sponsor, Mrs. Ovidlo Pe-
