NIXON VISIT HIGHLIGHTS SCHOOL YEAR — The visit by President Richard M. Nixon
will certainly highlight the school activities for 1972-1973 for the seniors of Rio Grande
City High School. Nixon is pictured above with high school principal Ruben Saenz as he
was received with a three minute standing ovation as the high school band played "Hail
to the Chief'. Saenz introduced Donald Gebhart who introduced the president to the high
and junior high student bodies. Saenz recalled the visit by the Rio Grande City High
School Student Council to Washington D.C. and remembered the big moment when Nixon
took timeout from his busy schedule to visit with the kids from Texas that year. (Herald

Tower speaks tonight
U.S. Senator John G. Tower will speak at the Knights
of Columbus Hall tonight (Thursday) in a meeting open
to the public.
Senator Tower was invited to join a special dinner-
meeting of the Rio Grande City Rotary Club but the
interest to hear him speak on various topics lead to
the public meeting which will be sponsored by the
Rio Grande City Rotary Club and the Knights of Col-
umbus De Saulles Council who is making the hall
available for the meeting.
Senator Tower will arrive at 6:45 p.m. at the local
airport and will be greeted by members of the Rotary
Club who will escort the Senator to dinner with mem-
bers and wife and their guests at the Rattler's Den
Restaurant. The club and Senator Tower will then
travel to the Knights of Columbus Hall where he will
speak on the Vietnam Conflict, War on Poverty and
Small Business.
"In Inviting the public," Club President Cesar Leal
said, ««I hope we have a big crowd at the KC hall to
greet and hear the Senator speak". "I understand that
he will take a non-political attitude about his talk and
this is why we have extended an invitation to the gov-
ernment classes of all our schools especially our high
schools."
"We want to assure that everyone is invited to the
Knights of Columbus Hall to hear the Senator speak
and talk with him afterwards," Leal said.
Tower will be Introduced by Raul Trejo who ar-
ranged the entire affair and by Humberto Garcia at
the KC Hall. Garcia is co-program chairman with
Trejo.
