2 HOSE JURNA
drank up the tea, and it was I who
ate the pie, and passed the cake to
me."
The cause of Texas will steadily
discountenance and subvert any spirit
similar to that of the little girl who
wrote that poem.
No, you would not be here lest you
measured success not in terms of how
much credit you can claim for your-
self but rather in terms of how much
you can strengthen Texas' claim to
greatness. With responsible and re-
sponsive leadership at the state and
local level, Texas can become one of
the dynamic industrial states in the
nation. With such leadership, we can
prove that state governments are the
most competent administrations for
our domestic concerns. With such
leadership, we can insure that we
exercise economy and efficiency and
retain our fiscal stability. With such
leadership, we can provide effective
services and meet the needs of all of
the people. With such leadership-
with each of us who is privileged to
serve holding to the highest standards
of honesty and integrity in public
service-and with the continued bless-
ings and by the Grace of an Almighty
and loving God, we will build together
a better and greater Texas.
The hopes and dreams and best
wishes of all of us rest now with thee.
