school fund, to the end, that our schools
may have a fifteen dollar ($15.00) ap-
portionment for the present school year.
The resolution was read second time
and was adopted.
ELECTION OF ASSISTANT READING
CLERK.
The Speaker stated that if there was
no objection he would request the ap-
plicants for Assistant Reading Clerk to
come forward and read a section of the
Constitution as a test of reading, and
that it would not be necessary to nomi-
nate anyone for the position.
There was no objection offered.
M. B. Brown was then requested to
read a section of the State Constitution.
Percy Foreman was then requested to
read a section of the State Constitution.
The Speaker appointed the following
members to take up and count the bal-
lots:
Messrs. Lane, Wells and Renfro.
The vote being taken up and counted,
resulted as follows:
Percy Foreman received 100 votes.
M. B. Brown received 25 votes.
Speaker Satterwhite then stated that
Percy Foreman, having received the ma-
jority of all votes cast, was duly elected
Assistant Reading Clerk of the House.
The Speaker then administered the
constitutional oath of office to him.
SENATE BILL ON FIRST READING.
The following Senate bill, received
from the Senate today, was laid before
the House, read first time, and referred
to the appropriate committee as fol-
lows:
Senate bill No. 2, to the Committee onil
Appropriations.

NOUNCED.
The Speaker announced the follow-
ing committee assignments:
Mr. Powell as Chairman of Commit-
tee on Education.
Mr. Young as Vice-Chairman of Com-
mittee on Education.
Mr. Woodall-Banks and Banking, In-
surance, and Privileges, Suffrage and
Elections.
Mr. Turner-Common Carriers, Con-
servation and Reclamation, and Consti-
tutional Amendments.
Mr. Hornaday-Conservation and
Reclamation, Contingent Expenses (Vice-
Chairman), and Municipal and Private
Corporations.Mr. Forbes-Liquor Traffic, Highways
and Motor Traffic, Labor, and Military
Affairs (Vice-Chairman).
Mr. Hall of Mitchell-Insurance,
Penitentiaries, Education, and Appro-

tions.
RECESS.
On motion of Mr. Hall of Harris, the
House, at 11:30 o'clock a. m., took re-
cess to 2 o'clock p. m. today.
AFTERNOON SESSION.
The House met at 2 o'clock p. m.
and was called to order by the Speaker.
SENATE BILL NO. 2 ON SECOND
READING.
Mr. Hall of Harris moved that the
constitutional rule requiring bills to be
read on three several days be suspended
and that Senate bill No. 2 be placed on
its second reading and passage to third
reading and on its third reading and
final passage.
The motion prevailed by the following
vote:
