Map shows mid-nineteenth century routes by land, and by sea via Cape Horn and Panama, to California; shows historic routes of exploration, major cities, mineral resources and mining activity, international boundary claims, Central America, and the West Indies; shows areas of Native American habitation and population statistics by tribe in Indian Territory, "Mandan District," Upper California, Oregon Territory, and small illustrations of several types of sailing vessels.
