OUR TRIP.
METROPOLITAN RACKET STORE.
t
We hav3 returned from our trip
to a visit to our parents and other
relatives, living near Cypress Mills,
Blanco connty, and merely make
mention of this fact to let old
friends of our father, E. Goeth, Sr.,
who formerly rosided at High Hill,
know that his health is still in a
had condition, having been paral
yzed over a year ago, half of his
body being effected. He is only
able to sit up in a chair and walk
about the house.
To say that we are thankful that
we live in a country such as Fay-
ette county, is only putting it mild-
ly, and esepcially will one, that
lives here now, find it so after
making a trip through Blanco, Bur-
net and part of Williamson county,
where the effects of the drouth
will make one feel sad.
Nearly all streams are dried up;
grass is dry and the Crops look
very bad. Wheat, oats and gar-
dens are a total failure, except in a
few instances.
The worst, though, without any
exception is Blanco county, where
in some localities the trees are
actually dying on account of the
drouth, not "having rained there at
all last winter.
As to the people though, to tell
the truth, they are very hospitable
and make the stranger that comes
among them feel at home.
When ft comes to having a little
fun they are not behind the times
either, never-the-less they have to
get their beer from a point about
100 miles from Cypress Mill.
Not-with-standing the drouth
the people around Cypress Mill
are a jolly and good-natured crowd,
and we hereby tender our thanks
for the hospitable manner in which
we were entertained during our
visit.
On our return home we stopped
one day at San Marcos, at the hos-
pitable home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Malone, the oldest settlers in that
vicinity—by the way, next March
they will celebrate their golden
wedding.
San Mara * is steadily improv-
ing and is one uf the most beautiful
little cities in the state.

Death of Wm. Voeikel, Sr.
Mr. Wm. Voeikel, an aged and
highly respected citizen, died at
his home in Yoakum a few min-
utes before midnight on last Thurs-
day, June 2nd; death resulting af-
ter an illness of short duration,
Had Mr. Voeikel lived a few min-.
utes longer he would have died on
his 73rd birthday. Mr. Voeikel
was born June 2nd, 1826, in Ernte-
brick Kreis Siegen, Regierungs-
bezirk Amdtsberg Westpfalen, and
came to Austin county, Texas in
1848, and was married to Miss An-
nie Find in 1852. This union was
blessed by ten children, five sons
and five daughters, all of whom
now live in surrounding counties.
Two of his sons, William and Hen-
ry Voeikel, live at Schulenburg,
while another son, Ernst Voeikel,
liyes at Cheapside. The other two
sons, Edward and Louie, reside,
the former at Industry and the lat-
ter here. The daughters, Mrs.
Annie Schrader and Mrs. Louis
Rinn, reside at Industry. Mrs.
Dr. Beckman, anothor daughter,
lives at Oldenburg, while the other
two daughters live in QeWitt poun-
ty, Mrs. Gus Rinn being a resident
of Yoakum, and the other, Mrs.
Will Puth, living at Cheapside.
All of the above sons and daughters
were present at the funeral. Mr.
Voeikel and wife and son came to
Yoakum a little over six months
ago, having previously erected a
neat home on East Hill, where
they had resided happily ever
since. Mr. Voeikel was an honor-
able and industrious citizen, and by
his labor and* energy had accumu-
lated enough of the world's goods
to enable himself and family to
live at ease and in perfect content-
ment. The remains were laid to
rest in the city cemetery Saturday
afternoon, Rev. W. Wolfsdorf, of
the German Lutheran church, per-
forming the funeral, service, and a
large number of relatives and
friends witnessing the last sad
rites. The Times joins with the
community in extending tbe grief-
stricken relatives and friends con-
dolence.—Yoakum Times.
