THE CIVIC CLUB
The "second "meeting of the
Civic Club Monday afternoon at
Turner Hall was largely attend-
ed and quite a few new members
were enrolled. <
The first business coming be-
fore the Club was the reading
' ancLadoption of the Constitution
and By-Laws which took up con-
siderable time on account of re-
peated reading for the benefit
of members arriving late. Tftey
were finally adopted withV few
minor changes.
Mr. E. R. Vogt was called on
to state how he had divided the
city into wards to facilitate in-
spection and the bounderies of
the five wards are as follows:
Ward 1—Beginning "from the
N. E- corner of the incorporated
limits of the city of Schulenburg
Thence South along the east
boundry line of said city limits
to the center of the main track
of the G. H. & S- A. railroad.
Thence west along the center of
said main track to the center of
Lyons Avenue. Thence north
along the center of said avenue
to the north bound ry line of said
city limits. Thence east to the
place of beginning.
Committee—Mrs. R. A. Wal-
ters, Mrs. G. Cranz, Mrs- E. B.
Kessler.
Ward 2.—Beginning from the
N. W. corner of ward 1 a point
in the north boundry lixie of the
city limits of Schulenburg where
Lyons Avenue intersect same.
Thence south along the center of
Lfons Avenue to the S. W. cor-
tbe cen-
ter of the main track of G. H. &
S. A. railroad. Thence west
along said railroad track to a
point in the center of Wolters
Avenue. Thence north along
the center of said avenue to
where it intersect the north
bounlry line of said city limits.
Thence east along said boundry
line to the place of beginning.

a point where it crosses the west

Duties of Ward Committees
shall consist in assisting the
health officer iu securing the co-
operation of the citizens of
Schulenburg , in establishing a
cleaner and more beautiful town;
to secure the screening of all
cisterns, the removal of garbage,
tin cans and other refuse from
premises; to help exterminate
the fly and the Jmosquito; to in-
spect all grocery and confection-
ary stores, meat markets, ba-
keries, creameries, ice plants,
ice cream factories etc; to re-
commend such improvements as
may tend to more sanitary
conditions aiM to report all im-
provements made along these
lines, to secure the enforcement
of the'ordinancies covering the
sweeping of all pub-iic buildings,
spitting on sidewalks, cleaning
of water closets, etc.
The following special commit-^
tees were named and their duties
assigned:
Committee on Sanitation and
Health—Mrs. H. C. Hafer, Gen-
eral Chairman; Mrs. A .B. Jor-
Assistant Chairman.
Duties of general chairman, to
receive all complaints concerning
sanitary conditions of the town,
to report same to subcommittees
and to order an investigation.
Names of complainants will be
witheld from the public, but no
attetnion will be given anony-
mous complaints filed.
Committee On School—Mrs.
Anna Breymann, Mrs. H. A.
Sengelmann, Mrs. W. J. Moore,
Mrs. R- C. Boettcher, Mrs. W.
A. Richter.
Duties of this committee are
to secure the co-operation of
teachers and children iiJHhe gen-
eral clean up movement; to re-
commend and enforce the use of
disinfectants in sweeping floors
of all school houses; the removal
of all drinking vessels from -the

Clean Up Proclamation
Whereas the governor of Texas has designated" April 18, 1913
as a general ''clean up lay" throughout the state, I the undersigned,
by virtue of the authority vested in me as mayor of Schulenburg,
beg to hereby appoint the above date as "clean up day" in this
cit>y.
I invite a cordial and energetic response to this request which
m?arn so much to all concerned and which has such an important
bearing upon the hsalt'i and general welfare of this city.
It is suggested that the citizens collect all trash, rubbish and
garbage in some convenient box or barrel and have same where it
can be easily cc^lectoJ by the wagons which will haul it off.
The civic club will take an active interest in the effort for a
"clean town" as will also the city health officer and municipal of-
ficers ani it is to ba hopsi that due interest and diligence will be

ures in the moving picture
shows, and to secure safe exits
from such buildings. Such other
things as may come before the
noticelof this committee for the
general physical and moral wel-
fare of our girls and boys shall
be acted upon.

The duties of this committee
shall consist of securing the
co-operation of all the members
of the club in raising funds to
defray such expenses as may

The duties of this comittee
shall consist of acting in behalf
of the club in fany emergency
that may arise.
It was deoided to have the
first inspection on Thursday the
24th "and a special meeting to
hear reports of committees will
be held at Turner [Hall Friday
afternoon on the 25th.
Clean-up-day is today, Friday
the 18th, and it Is the desire of
the'health officer, mayor and city
council and civic club that every
man, woman and child assist in
the clean up campaign.
On account of the lateness of
the hour much business was de-
ferred until the next regular
meeting which will be held the
first Monday afternoon in May.
It is to be hoped all members
will be present and that new
ones will be enrolled.
The duty of.the civic club as a
whole ^hall be to assist the city
council and the health officer in
securing the general improve-
ment, the growth, the welfare of
Schulenburg, not so much to
criticize or expose unsanitary
conditions as to recommend and
report all improvements noted
to[in that line.
The work of the Civic Club, if
done and accepted in the right
spirit will result in much gool
for the general welfare of the
entire city^
