There is a physician in Philadel-
phia who is so fond of the music
of Richard Waguer'that whenever
a child is born in a family of his
patients he will suggest a name for

three little girls, were born the
other day that will be named,

A Night of Terror.
"Awful anxiety was felt ior the
widow of the brave General Burn-
ham oT Machias, Me., when the
doctors said she would die from
Pneumonia before morning" writes
Mrs. S. H. Lincoln, who attended
her that fearful night, but she
begged for Dr. King's New Discov-
ery, which had more than once
saved her life, and cured her of
consumption. After taking, she
slept all night. Further use entire-
ly cured her." This mavelous

E. M. Munday, a lawyer of Hen-

was very low with Malarial fever
and jaundice. I persuaded him to
try Electric Bitters, and he wras
soon much better, but continued
their use until he was wholly
cured. I am sure Electric Bitters
cured his life." This remedy ex-
pells malaria, kills disease germs
and purifies the blood; aids diges-

bowels, cures constipation, dyspep-

bles, female complaints; gives per-

Heliogabalus was the first Ro-

had a silken gown made in which
he appeared in public and which
caused grave scandal among staid
elderly Roman citizens.
The British admiralty office has
recently been seized with the idea
that stoking on board a vessel of
war is a work that should not be
left to the uneducated laborers who
now perform the work, but should
be thoroughly understood if not
actually performed by all naval
cadets. Hereafter all cadets or
naval apprentices must take a
turn at stoking.

The readers of this paper will
be pleased to learn that there is at
least one dreaded disease that
science has been able to cure in all
its stages, and that is Catarrh.
Hall's Catarrh Cure is the only
positive cure known to the medical
fraternity. Catarrh being a consti-
tutional disease,requires a constitu-
tional treatment. Hall's Catarrh
Cure is taken internally, acting di-
rectly upon the blood and mucous
surfaces of the system, thereby de-
stroying the foundation of the dis-
ease, and giving the patient
strength by building up the consti-
tution and assisting nature in do-
ing its work. The proprietors
have so much faith in its curative
powers that they offer One HuncU
red dollars for any case that it fails
to cure. Send for list of testsmon-
ials. Address,

views of his case taken by the doc-

knows nothing."

Texas and Irrigation.
It has been demonstrated that
beneith the rolling plains and farm
lands of Texas, a never failing of
water percolates gently seawards.
In the rice sections it is found a
few hundred feet from the surface.
Farther north and west, the sup-
ply, while abundant is deeper. A
six inch well will irrigate 160
acres of rice. Much more land
can be brought into bearing where
the crop is not so thirsty. A farm-
er at Beeville cleared over $900 on
an acre of cauliflower, irrigating
from a three inch well which also
supplied his entire farm. Irriga-
tion is an ideal method. Careful
experiments and the boring or driv-
ing of wells will do much towards
alleviating drowth conditions in
this state and at a moderate ex-
pense. Irrigated crops are the
surest and the experience of the
arid states of the west demonstrates
how successfully barren sections
can be made productive by the
employment of irrigating wells and
ditches. Among the rice farms in
the coast country, the six- and
eight inch wells are taking the
place of the large canals and reduc-
ing the expense of making a crop.

TEXAS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OFFICIALLY RECOfiNlZBS THE SHIRT WAIST.
The one thing that is sure to stir up" The American Public is any
departure from custom—any thing that is not in style and lacks Dan. e
ions approval, no matter how sensible and full of service the new idc_
vide the shirtwaist man, for instance. In time, however,-the merits of
worthy innovation impress themselves, and the distrustful theory b
fact—as in the case of the shirt waist, adopted at Austin, August 6th,
ficial vote as the proper thing.
"THE DENVER R.OAD" was the first to break away from the electro-
slug method of display advertising, giving the people something to read, with
frequent changes, and it worked well. This year in the interest of our "con-
stant readers" we haveput in a little time courting the muse, also the Amuse,
and—Has it worked? Well, the shirtwaist man realized that he had be. n
flagged and backed into a blind siding when he heard the talk. The "TALK"
was what we were after—we thought the people a trifle slow in coming to a
full understanding of what we were offering them for their money.
Within the last three years "THE DENVER ROAD" has made several
quite radical departures In the matter of regular, daily equipment and service,
viz: Pullmans with comfortable large dressing rooms for ladies, Cafe Cars,
meals a la carte. Day coaches—of the most modern variety—a 1 1—
box-vestibuled train, run through without change. These trains,
our individual advertising—Both strictly "Poetry of Motion"—have _
considerable attention, and we are doing a good business, which is a
ment to the intelligence of the people who are out guests.
