Meyer Bodoff takes the
reins as DJCF executive
director and CEO
TEXAS JEWISH POST & SINCE 1947
By Rachel Gross
Meyer Bodoff has a passion for
Jewish communal work. As the new
executive director of the Dallas Jewi sh
Community Foundation, he hopes
to guarantee the future of the Dallas
Jewish community and make a differ-
ence for coming generations.
Bodoff assumed the position on
Feb. 8. He has spent his entire career
working in many facets of various
Jewish communities, and was most
recently president of the United Jew-
ish Community of Las Vegas for eight
years. Prior to that, he was executive
director of the Jewish Federation of
Central Massachusetts, the Jewish
Federation of Southern Maine and the
Jewish Community Center of Central

Bodoff said his immediate goals
are to meet with donors, get to know
his staff and leadership and make
people aware of what exactly the foun-
dation does. He said it's vital for the
found ation to get its name out in the
community.
"Most people understand what a
day school is, because you can touch
it and see it. People understand what
a JCC is, and a synagogue. We have to
let people understand what the foun-
dation is," he said. "You can see the
foundation in action every day by the
results of what we do. There are mil-
lions of dollars that have been invested
in this community and Israel. In this
business, it's important to learn about
all week lona!

the dreams and goals of your fund
holders to ensure that we are there for
them."
The goal of the Dallas Jewish Com-
munity Foundation (DJCF) is to im-
prove the Jewish community and the
world through the development and
stewardship of philanthropic resourc-
es of donors and community partners.
Bodoff added that the foundation cur-
rently manages about $135 million.
He said the foundation is good, but
he wants to strive to make it great. He
added that the Create a Jewish Legacy
bequest and endowment initiative is
the principal way to secure the future
of the Jewish community.
"The foundation is about to take
off to a great place," he said. "It's won-
derful to see how many partners have
picked this [Create a Jewish Legacy]
up in a short period of time. I think
people will view this as one of the
most important events that's ever
taken place [here]. Organizations and
individual donors are standing up to
guarantee the future for this commu-
nity, for their grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. That's powerful.... As
the new kid on the block, it's exciting
and empowering to see a community
come together like that."
Despite the tough economy, Bodoff
thinks that people will still continue to
donate to the Jewish community. He
said setting up a fund with the foun-
dation is an asset to donors in multiple
ways — it has tax ramifications and
making a donation will secure funds
for the future.
