The property that Mr. Houston owned in Dallas totaled 274.85 acres in the two
tracts. The Dallas Development Company developed Country Club Estates, bounded by
Lakewood Boulevard on the North and Greeneville Avenue on the West. They also sold
part of the land to Lakewood Country Club.
Descendants of residents of at least nine other places, from Iowa to Maine, would
be interested in seeing this Pennsylvania will for the relationships that it defines. With a
little research one can easily do a four or five generation chart of the descendants of Mr.
Houston's grandparents, as well as the descendants of his mother and father-in-law.
In 1996 the dwelling "Druin Moir" still stands in Chestnut Hill. It is palatial,
surrounded by spacious grounds, although some of the grounds are now occupied by a
private girls school The Church of St. Martin-in-the-Field is still there and is elegant,
beautiful and well-kept. Descendants of Mr. Houston are still members of the church, as
far as I could determine.
What a wealth of information this document contains, and what lessons it gives
us. We seldom find the insights into a man's character that Item 58 gives. And wouldn't we
like to find that inventory book to see what it contained that he didn't want recorded or
published!
