County Superintendent: The
school law as amended at the
special session of tho twenty-sec-
ond legislature fixes tho third
Friday and Saturday iu August,
the lUth and 'JOth, as the timo lor
the next regular examination oí
teachers. The state board of ex-
aminers cannot possibly finish the
work of grading the summer nor-
nial papers in time to notify the
teachers of the results before that
date. As most of the teachers
who fail to secure summer normal
certilieate will desire to be exam-
ined at the earliest opportunity,!
hereby authorize an examination
to be held iu all the counties oí
the state on Friday and Saturday,
September, 2 and .'J. You will
please see that all the teachers of
your county have notice of this
change, so as to avoid any delays
or inconvenience in the opening
of the schools in those districts
where the people wish them to
begin early in September. Very
respectfully, J. M. Carlisle,
State Superintendent Public In-
struction.
Helton Accidents.
Helton experienced a series of
accidents on the 5th inst., that
read as if a day Was set apart for
the purpose. Walter Atkins was
thrown from a mule, his right hip
was dislocated. City attorney
Hair left his horse unhitched aslie
sprang out of his buggy to get his
mail at the post office, of!' dashed
his horse, he caught the rains and
was pulled down and dragged on
his back a lew yards, bruising him
and the buggy ran over his right
leg, breaking no bones.
Mr. Jessie Jllair and wife, Mrs.
T. VV. Cocinen and Mrs. M. E.
Head were returning from Hol-
land, the horses frightened and
ran away throwing the entire par-
ty out, breaking Mrs. Head's loft
arm, dislocating her wrist, bruis-
ing her chest and leg badly.

cast of the storm wave to cross
the continent from August Uth to
J3th, and the next will reach the
Pacific coast about the, 14th, cross
the western mountains by the
clos't of the 15th, the great central
valleys from the Kith to IKth, and
the eastern states about the JIHIi.
This will be an average stonn in
force, preceded by excessive hot
weather and followed by a moder-
ately cool wave which will move
eastward across the western moun-
tains about the 17th, the great
central valleys about the 10th and
the eastern states about tho 21s!>
The term great central valleys
used in these fori casts includes
all the country lying east of the
Rocky mountains and west of the
Alleghanies. It also includes
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana,
Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The most dangerous storm
wave of August will roach tho
Pacific coast about the 20th, cioss
the western mountains by tho
close of the 2lwt, the great central
valley from the 22ml to the 24th,
and the eastern «tatos ubout the
25th. This storm Will "begin to
increase iu force about the 23rd,
when near the Mississippi river,
and will become a dangerous
storm in the upper Ohio valley
and the eastern states about the
24th to 25th.
A moderate cool wave will cross
the western mountains about the
23rd, the great central valley
about the 25, und the eastern
Btates about the 27th. Tho wcath.
er, however, will average excess-
ively hot during tho lant half of
August, with local drouths and
excessive rains in some places.
