Betty B. Bateman
PLATTSBURGH, NY - Betty B. Bateman, 92, of Plattsburgh, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at the CVPH
Medical Center.
She was born in Elkhart, Ind., on April 10, 1914, the daughter of George H. and F. Nina (Snook)
Bellinger.
Betty earned her bachelors degree at the University of Akron in Ohio. She then attended Case Western
where she received her masters degree in Library Science.
At the start of World War II Betty worked for the Navy at Camp LeJeune. Following the war she held
several positions in various libraries including the Dallas public library, the Detroit public library, the
Texas A & M Library and the Stanford Research Institute. Betty then received a position as a reference
librarian at IBM in Poughkeepsie and eventually became the information systems manager. She retired
from IBM, at the age of 70, in 1983 after 20 years of service.
While working and also during her retirement years, Betty loved to travel and visited many locations
around the world. She was a genealogy expert and was very proud of the countless hours spent
researching her family's genealogy and helping others do the same. Even at the age of 92 she was an
avid user of the internet for research.
Betty was a member of the Tuesday Club in Plattsburgh and also the Computer Club at the Senior
Citizens Council.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gregory Cronin of Plattsburgh; two
grandchildren, Laurel Avery and her husband Bradford of Manassas, Va., and Parker Cronin and his
fiancee Erika Brockhues of Plattsburgh; one cousin, Bruce Martin of Goshen, Ind.; and a very special
and close friend, Susan Cadieux.
There will be no public calling hours or funeral services at Betty's request.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Northeastern NY Chapter, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 50
Colvin Avenue, Albany, NY 12206.
Arrangements are with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
