Building Parade float
Staff members and residents at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home moved to the School Bus
Barn this week to work on their float for the Fourth of July Parade. The float will be a big one this year
and the bus barn provided space to work under cover.

Canadian's Annual Fourth of
July Parade will bo following a
new route Saturday morning, in
an effort to provide a safer and
more shaded situation for both
participants and spectators.
Choice of the new off-highway
route was made almost a year
ago following the 1980 Julv 4th
Par ade. by Chamber of Com-
merce representatives and par-
ade personnel.
Parade entries are asked to be
in place by 9 o'clock for pre-
parado judging. The parade is
scheduled to get underway at 10
o'clock.
The parade participants will
gather near Canadian High
School, says Dan Cornett, co-
chairman with Caroline Cornett
of the Parade, which is spon-
sored annually by the Canadian
Chamber of Commerce. The
parade will cross Fifth Street to

Courthouse. The Judges' stand
will be situated on the first
landing of the steps to the
Courthouse.
After passing the Judges'
stand the parade will continue
up Main Street to Sixth and turn
right at the Methodist Church,
then continue across Sixth to the
general area of the Middle
School, where it will disband.
Parade officials have selected
the general theme of "The Good
01' Summertime" for this year's
parade.
Judges for the parade will be
Phil and Brvna Harris of Perry-
ton. They will review the parade
entries starting at about 9:00.
and the announcement of the
winners and awarding of tro-
ph ies will take place as the
winners pass the reviewing
stand.
There will be first, second and
third place trophies awarded in
each of eight categories, club
and organizational entries,
commercial floats, and vehicles,
novelties, bicyclists, horseback
riders and individuals, wagon
trains, riding clubs and in-
dustrial entries.
A number of local and out-of-
town parade entry forms have
been received at the Chamber of
Commerce office, according to
Chamber Manager Chuck Park.
It will be helpful to both the
parade officials and the judges if
those planning to enter the
parade (except single horseback
riders and bicvclists) will fill in

The Fourth of July Parade will assemble at the Canadian High School and travel a route
across Fifth Street to Pureell where it will turn left for one block, then right at Fourth and
Pureell for one block and right again at Fourth and Main where it will travel uphill for two
blocks, passing the Judges' stand on the steps to the Courthouse. At the corner of Sixth and
Main, by the First Methodist Church, it will again take a right turn and travel across Sixth to
the area of the Middle School, where it will disband.
General areas where portions of the parade will gather are designated.

entry and a brief description.
The forms arc available at the
Chamber of Commerce office.
Late entries will be accepted.
All bicyclists are asked to
gather on Nelson between 5th
and <>th streets where they will
be listed and given numbers.
Aurelia and John Gallardo are in
charge of this part of the
parade. They will feed the
bicycle entries into the parade at
the proper time.
Horseback riders and wagon
trains should gather in trie
unpaved area near the parking
lot adjoining the high school and
middle school buildings where
Jo Schafer will be in charge of
organizing this part of the
parade.
Heaw equipment and indus-
trial vehicles are asked to line
up on Fifth street, in front of
Canadian High School, but not
on school property. If there are a
large number of these vehicles,
they may extend across Chey-
enne south onto Fifth street.
Other parade entries will
assemble on the parking lot in
front of Canadian High School
where parade organizers will
direct them into the parade.
Bill Bohannon will be the
announcer for the parade.
