The Famous Jett-WMte
Case Goes to the Jury
Jackson. Ky., Juno 18.—There was
another large crowd here today to
bear the closing argumenta In the case
of Jett and White for the murder of
Lawyer Marcum. Everybody wanted
to hear the cloalng address by .Com-
monwealth's Attorney Byrd. All men
entering the the court room were
eloaely searched for concealed wea
pons. There are apprehenalons of
what might happen tonight with such
a crowd in town. If It Is a hung jury
It Is stated that Oovernor Beckham,
who has a state Inspector in the lines
here looking on. will not' allow the'
next trials to be held In Breathitt
county.
There are grave fears today for the
safety of some of the newspaper men.
Twrf§ correspondents left yesterday
and their papers sent new men to take
their places, and these are not known
to the assassins.
When the court opened today Com-
monwealth Attorney Byrd began an
argument which la pronounced by at-
torneys to be most convincing in char-
acter. Byrd haa a reputation as a
fearleaa prosecutor, and when * he
opened he announced that he would
«MM
do his duty, it mattered not who
would be hurt.
Byrd has purchased a home at
Winchester, Kentucky, and ha¿ pre-
pared to move his family there at
the conclusion of the trial.
He spoke of how Captain EJwin was
forced to fly for protection to the sol-
tlutr through fear of assassination,
and the defense objected frequently
during the course of his remarks. Byrd
asked the jury to make the same sac-
riflce that Capt. Ewtn had made. Rais-
ing hla hand aloft threateningly at
the two prominent men who sat In the
court room he said:
"I want to give warning to you and |
all of your followers that your blood-!
thirsty doings must be stopped In !
Breathitt county. Leave this county:
and its people. God knows they ha"ve I
suffered enough. God knows that the
day has got to come when the arch
assassins and th<j men who control
the power behind the Jetts.and. Whites
will be ekpoaed to the world, and eith-
er sent to prison or to the hangman's
noose."
Jackson, Ky., June 18.—The case of
,'ett and White waa slvei to the jury
at 11:30 o'clock today.

The sequel to the story was enacted
this morning. Whether the girl waa
forced into marriage or exerclaed the
feminine prerogative of changing her
mind, deponent sayeth not. Certain
it is she married her betrayer.
The Greek's name is Stefen Liolios
and tho fair young maid from, the Or-
ient, whom he brought here and who
thla morning stood by his side before
Justice Wyndham and said the words
which for all time binds her to her
cousin, is known by the euphonious
title of Hyrukokola—she ought to
ohange It.
Several prominent business men
happened to be paaslng the Greek's
store s¿ ike time and were called In
to Witneea the ceremony. Among
the party were Dr. J. C. fleastrunk, B.
G. Baker, J. P. Tatum and Capt. Bolln.
