Matou DeMohse,
Dear Sir ;—llore, we invincible Texas
Rangers are sletioncd ia the Indian tcrri-

settlements, for tho puro—¡o of prr tw? ! g tot! «
si«nl Irontter. Since we have been here,
we have not seen any hostile Indians.—
Col. Suith, in the absence of Col. Johnson
visited the Reserve Indians, ar.d frotr,
some sources there learned that the Kick-
apaux Indians had admitted and even
bragged that it was them that killed the
Mason and other families in Texas In
1858. nnd that they were always too
smart for the Texians to ever catch them.
Col. Smith also stated that.several of the
Reserve Indians and White Traáers were
willing to give him certificates to the
above effect, and in tho council of officers
made the impression that the U. S. troops
were willing for tho Texians to march to
tho K.ckapaux village and givo them a
good drubbing (Texas drubbing; ki'l them
all,) aud thai they (iho troops) would not
interfere. Under this impression 250
men wore detailed and rutionód for 21'
days and lod on by Col. Smith. Tho di-
roct-courso lo whore tho Kiekapaux vil-
lage was attid to bo-situated was through
the Comanche Reservo via Fort Cobb.—
When tho Rangers arrived noar tho Re-
servo, thoy («orno of thorn) triod to go
around it, thcroby frightening tho rod
Comanche devils nearly to douih. They
deserted their villages, painted up and
look to tho biuVh, so badly scared limi
tlioy would not go up to the Fort lo draw
thSir provisions. Tha commander of iho
Fort (as it prove í) was entirely unin-
formed as "to the object and intentions of
tho Rangers; ami tho first thing tho Ran-
gora know was 200 soldiers camped in a
short distance of them with tho intention
of dimming them. In tho meantime
Capt. lUirloson had marched his company
directly through tho ngoncy and oanipod
noar thu Fort where Lieut. (I have for-
«otimt tho name) with .10 men, walled on
him, and dmrnndod his and other Ranger#
business there. Capt. UurloiKH) then ex-
plained the nhjoQt, with which the Lieut,
was satisflud, and then Informed him that
the Klokapauxs were in the Crook and
Seminole Nations, and that thoy were
700 warriors otrotig, beside , the Creeks
and Seminóles would nsslut th mi. The
Lieut, ulso told them that hu would not
interfere, and if the Rangers went on,
thoy might imwibln kill « few Klultapattx,
but that the troop at Fort Aibuckle
(with whom thoso Indians aro favorite*)
would protect them at any ami all ri«k>.
In the mec.n time, men were started out
to tho main camp to invito the oilleers to
oome to the Fort and receive the hasp!-
tality of tho Commander, but Col. Smith
hud got on a big acare and thought I hey
.vero alter him to arrest him, so he kept
out of sight. Capt. Ross had sent an ex-
presa frum his company to ,(5ol, Smith,

Such is the bold, yet truthful aiinciinceinen

negro slavery ta wrong, anu the denial of the
right of properly in slavos, is based the exclu-

extirpation of the Institution in the States wher-i
it exists. Strippodaf all disguise, the party dif-
ferences of tile day resolve themselves into thu
simple issues—the negro our equals, and enti-
tled to equal social and political inundiiities ?
Shall the five millions of negroes iu Southern
society remain in their pre ¡-out subordinate
.sphere of happiness and usefulness, or shall we
voluntarily assent to the Africanization of thia
portion of tha Continent ! Fhnil we destroy th*
great element of labor in troplcol productions,
snd thus paralyze the euergles of n world-wide
and munificent cemmerce, of whose fruits the
while laborers of tue civilized earth are tha im
mediate beneficiaries ? Shall we degrade the
white laborer of the Pouth by th* oomiietltiun
of five millions of /.-te laborers t Shall
political power remain exclusively iu the hand*
of tha dominant white rnr.e,«r «hall we laibmit
