cians have a hard time with us, and
we could not blame them to offer up
the prayer we once hoard from an
eccentric son of Jüsculapius. This
Doctor lived in a country town
which was at that time "distressing-
ly healthy." His neighbors had,
for several nights, about "the noon
of night," hear i some one in ear-
nest prayer. Oue of them determi-
ned to ascertain who it was that
was so pious in their midst. .Ac-
cordingiy the next night that he
heard tho pious ejaculation, he went
in the direction of "the sound there-
of," and the result was, he espied
the Doctor on his knees, in front of
his office, earnestly praying in this
wise, vizt "Oh! Lord, thou hast
commanded us io pray for our "dai-
ly bread," and, thou knowest, I get
my "daily bread" from others woes"
—Oh Lord! it is so very healthy, at
this time, that my family bid fair to
starve. Now Oh! Lord, in obedi-
dience to that command, I earnestly
[>ray thee to send an awful pesti-
ence, and smite this people. Oil! i^!, bigtituooitriVi'io sitnyinnuttiiUlintel, will i according to law.
