have no strength left"
Nabar, touched with pity, dismount-
ed, led his hoise to the spot, and with
great difficulty, set the seeming beggar
on his back. But no sooner did Daher
feel himself on his back, thaif he set
spurs to the horse and galloped off, call-
ing out as be did so, t
"It is I, Daher. I have got the
horse, and am off with it"
Nabar called after him to stop and
listen. Certain of not being pursued,
he turned, and halted at a short dis-
tance from Nabar.
"You have taken my horse," said the
latter. "Since Heaven has willed it, I
wish you joy of it but I do conjure you
never to tell any one how ypu obtained
it" '•
"And why not?" asked Daher!
"Because," said the noble Arabj "an-
other man might be really ill, and men
would fear to help him. You would be
the cause of many refusing to do a
charitable act, for fear of being duped
as I have been."
Struck with shame at these words,
Daher was silent for a moment,, then
springing from the horse, retained it to
his owner, embracing him. Nabar
made him accompany him to his tent,
where they spent a few i'ays together,
and became fast friends for life.

commending the defence of our H«

following remarkable facts :
I was Commonwealth's Attorney of
. the city of Richmond for twenty-one
years, and in that long interval, I prose-

were most honorably acquitted, there
being not a particle of evidence to sus-

Jew wa3 before me for trial, and he was
acquitted. In all that long interval I.
do not rememder having ever received
an application for public charity from
any individual of either sex or age be-
longing to that faith. And, so far as I
am aware, no Jewish child has ever re-
^¡jceived even the benefits of our free
schools, for which their párente, without
a murmur, pay their taxes.
