June 7, 186(5. }
To tho people of Austin and
Washington counties:
When I consented, contrary to my
personal inclination, to allow my
name to bo placed before yon as a
candidato for tho State Senate from
this District, 1 knew not what move-
ments had been made with regard to
tho candidacy of others. There is
now before you another gentleman of
tried experience in public affairs, in
whom the people of this District have
ever reposed confidence, and in whose
hands I believe the interests of the
people will be safe. I shall, there-
fore, consult my own feelings, and
withdraw my name, thanking my
friends for the kindness and en
couragoment they have given me.
