Grobcrtown.—The Editor acknowl-
edges the kind nena of tho citiscua of
Georgetown during his recent visit.—
Tlicy ro good judges of the good things
of this life. We attended a supper and
a diuner too at tho new Presbyterian
Church, gotten up, (we mean tho cnta-
Vic of course,) by the ladies of George-
town—ladies whose presence, beauty
and sparkling wit, added to the bounti
Ail feeding at Ake's Hotel, operated as
checks upon the gastronomic organs of
those who attended to eat for the cause
ol righteouHiiefs. The time was pleas-
antly spent and a good deal of the
" needful," which is wanted for painting
llic commodious edifice and for pews
was pui<li not given, for every man got
more than a quid pro quo, (he ''feed and
the seeing," being of greater value
than a dollur.
We were glad to learn that, althougl;
the II. uso was built for the Presbyte
rians, all orthodox preaclicin are allowed
to occupy the pulpit.

trict Court of Williamson county, seem-
ed to 1 ; tolerably well represented on
Thursday lost, (when wo left George-
town,) considering the state of the at-
mosphere, and the reported appearance
of young grasshoppers on the upper
San Gabriel. Among the brilliant gal
any surrounding the judgment seat, we
noticed the following familiar physiog
noinies from the State Capital: Kx-
Governor Pease, Hamilton, Hancock,
G. W. Pasclml, the two Sucede, Charley
Hobards, Flournoy, Shelley, Lee, West,
li. Green, Bowers, Col. Turner, and
last, though by no mears least, Col.
Salem T Newton, who represents be
fore tho Georgetown forum the vast
landed interests of General Chambers,
and who, in all probability, would have
gained his client's case, had circumstan-
ces within the control of the client
alone, permitted the Colonel to have
gone to trial. As the matter now stands
there is no j mlieting how this impor
tant suit may terminate. Wo hope for
the best however, no matter who wins.

Ilenry has published a severe article
against General Twiggs, (verifying the
same by affidavit,) in reply to tho order
of the latter, for the suppression of the
lately contemplated expedition to Mexi-
co for the capture of runaway slaves.
Col. Henry swears by tho holy spoons,
that Genera! Twiggs himself first sug-
gested tho propriety of tho measure,
which he now officially condemns, and
slightly intimates that the veteran hero
is somewhat of a " marauder." The Col.
also asserts that he can establish his
charges Against General Twiggs, " by
numbers of responsible witnesses."
