Captain's request, but that wMthe lost
we saw of her, except at a distance,
which grew greater every momcut.
At 1 o'clock hi the evening we saw no
possibility of keeping her ufloat much
longer, although wa knew if we could
do so until luoruing wo would all be
saved soon after it became light.
About thin time a heavy sea, fur the
first time, broke over her upper deok,
and all our hopeB faded away.

Very soon a tremendous sea swept ov-

momcut.
1 think that there were at that mo-

There was nothing, or at least very
little said, except that each one cheered
his fellow comrades, and our courage
wuv thus kept up, for two or three
hours.
During this time 1 think none hud
drowned but those who were unable to
swim bum exhaustion; but now one by
one, our party gradually passed into
eternity.

in l'rovuleuce. What hotter trust could
we a«k with eternity looking us in the

1 saw my comrades fast sluicing, and
at 1 o'clock that night I was nearly
alone upon the wide ocean, Borne two
hundred miles from land,
1 however heard the shouts Irom all
that were still strong enough to make
theriiswlvoB heard, and who were near
enough to me, but 1 could not see any

About 2 o'clock, I saw a vessel, which
I judged to be about one mile iroui me,
Tttking fresh courage, I struck out for

We remained near the scene of the
fearful calamity until we supposed that
all who co'iiicf be alive had been rescued,
and then set sail.
We found the bark was short of pro-

We, however-, wore furnished with tea

At noon on Wnuday we spoke to the
American buik Saxon, bound for Sit
