The jurv in the case of Rufas Wes-
ley charged with hog theft, returned
a verdict o? guilty, assessing his pen-
alty at three years1 in the peniten-
tiary.
The case of Richard Parker, color-
ed, was called charged with ibigamy.
Parker plead guilty and was given
two years In the penitentiary.
The case of Pill Wesley charged
with hog stealing, was continued.

Hotel. They have taken charge a.nd

from Lufkin Mr. Ashlby has resided

your own lot. The wagons will not
haul manure, .brickbats nor rocks,
but 'Will haul tin cams, 'Stovepipe,
broken crockery, castoff clothes, rag?
and everything else that can not he
burned, and will ibecome a nuisance.
These 'wagons will not he permitted
to stop to help you do your work.
The city kindly furnishes the, wag-
ons for only one day and if your
trash is not ready it will 'be your
fault, and you will be left high and
dry. So get ihr.sy. Commence now to
clcan up if yon have any civic
pride about you you will not only
clean your own lot but will insist on
your neighbor doing likewise,

WOMAN BURNED 10
DEATH AT BIG SANDY
(From Saturday's Pally.)
News reached tin- city today of the
burning to death of Mrs. Ella Clem-
den which occurred at Big Sandy.
It appears that she was at work
with ¿overa 1 children burning trash
when the fire ogan to spread. Fear-
ing that it would set fire to the fence,
she attempted o check it when her

stantly she was all ablaze, and rusto-
ingto a pond of water, sli" threw
herself into it. She died in a few

small children

remains of Miss Edgar, a well known
young woman who was killed near
this city, by being thrown from a
woeon. wore interred yesterday after-
noon.

Tho funeral of Mrs. Sid S. Johnson

taking place at. Oakwood cemetery.
Mr. Smith Johnson, eldest, son, ar-
rived last might from Washington,
having been on the road over a week.
Ho was dojayed on account of snow
tonus in the Itocky Mountain .
The 'funeral services were hold at
the family residence on Dawson Hill,
in the south western part of the city.
Hundreds of frienda attended and
paid the last testimonial of respect to
friend and neighbor. There woe a
long procession, following the re-
mains to Oak woo cemetery.

Jacksonville, Tex., March 7.—The
pros'picts are goo' that there will be
a good peach crop this year. Tho
cold winter has kept the buds back
and the trees are In a healthier con-
dition than they have boon for two
or three years.
Th' prach crop has been almost a
fallare for the last two years, due to
a disease of 1 l«e troca, the name of
which ha« never 'been fully agreed
upon by hortleulturlfcits.
There are more than &0(H) acres o"
peach trees tributary to Jacksonville,
and the fruit, when there is a heavy
yield, is quite an Item In a business
way.

Chas. Artz, bookkeeper for Woldert
Grocery Company, who has been
sick for some bwo or three weokti, Is
reported better today. He ta alble to
bo up and about the house. He has
had quite a sloco and his many
friends aro glad to note his Improv-
ed condition.
To Survey Branch Line.
Jaoksibono, Tox., March 7.—'The
Cull', Texas and Western railway en-
gineering corps has order to take
tho field next Monday at Jermyn and
inn a preliminary survey frotn Jer-
myn in a northerly direction toward
the iStowart coal mine, some four and
one-half miles distant. Details of the
full meaning or extent of the survey
can not be learned.
W. I>. Rice, a prosperous citizen of
I.toldillo, is in tho city today, and had
the Semi-Weekly Courier-Times sent
to his address for another year.
Mr. Hice says prospects for fruit
this year wore never better. There
will be a very small crop of straw-
berries, on account oí excessive
drouth of last sumimor having killed
a very largo per cent of the plants.
A large acreage was riset, but they
will not hear any this year, or at any
rate, only a small yield.
