Mr. Bruley's cook this morn-
ing is named Crecencio Ar-
guelles He is doubtless
now on the safe side of the
Rio Grande
Three convicts were started
off on the steamer today,
en route to the penitentiary.
They were Juan Garcia, who
goes up for five years, and
Wm. Barton and Antonio
Espinoza, for two years each.
This morning a Mexican
got iiito a row at Bruley's
ranch with that gentleman's
cook, and cut til poor fellow
across the bowels, inflicting
a dangerous wound. The as-
sailant then made his escape.
Capt. King having bought
the Morcliead building, now
occupied by the Rio Grande
lee Works, and we learn has
given the folks, who own the
latter machine, notice that
he needs his property for otilar
purposes.
A man named Francisco
has been
"fiv up the creek"'—a salt
creek at that.
The Republican tries to be
a lion .but its roar is awful
weak. It is no more like a
lion than the editor of the op
posing paper resembles John
L. Sullivan. Though we have
no doubt he would like to in-
troduce that lialucination in
the minds of the people. It
would have such a repressive
effect on the fellow who might
be inclined to go around to

The Harris sailed on her
return trip at 1:30 p m, today.

hides, 4.4 bales skins and hair,
113 sks. wool. 50 sks. seed cot-
ton, 1243 bags hones, 4 pkgs.

and $11,800 ill specie. Among
her passengers were Mr. E. V.
Susteudal and Mr. Ritter. rlhe
German doctor, who has been
some time in Matamoros, also
left. He took with hiin a num-
ber of cases of curiosities from
the Huasteca district, which
are to be placed in the New
Orleans exposition .
