The Mails.—We are yet Without
mails or a Postmaster at Galveston. A
week elapsed between the last two mails

ter for Galveston, when we shall have
mails from New Orleans and Houston

was one of the evils we predicted from
secession; and it must continue until
Congress makes new appropriations.

Superintendent of the Freedmen's Bureau,
has authorized the denial of the late report
that he had threatened to appropriate cer-
tain lands in Maryland to the use of the
superannuated negnjt-s in case their former
masters rafnaed to support and tate care of
theni. He claims to be too wise and moder-
ate to resort to so fash ánd arbitrary a mea-
sure. .
Justice to the Soura.—^The Boston
Journal says,;
' It is gratifying to see the' disposition
which is manifested in almost every lo-
cality in the láté rebel States to obey
the laws and ■ pay proper respect to the
regularly Constituted authorities. Per-
sons who have travelled extensively in
those States since the rebel armies sur-
rendered, express their' surprise at the
extent to which this feeling is manifested.
The people are heartily glad to be rid of
the domiribtion and tyranhy of the irebel

tle on the hoof, the.cattle to be delivered at this
post and Indianola, not to exceed (250) two
buhdred and fifty head a week at both places.
The cattle to weigh al least (4U0) four hun-
dred pounds nett.
Bids from persons who come under the ex
ceptions of the President's amnesty proclama
tion will not be entertained, nor will bids in
which said persons are interested either directly
or indirectly be received, unless they can pro-
duce a pirdon from the President.
Bids from all other persons under said proc-
lamation must be acomipamed by tbe amnesty
oath.
Proposals must be accompanied by a proper
guarantee signed bj two responsible persons,
Staling that if a contract is swarded to fhe bid-
der they will enter bonds for a faithful fulfill-
inent ot tile contract.
Contract to comttence on the first day of Sep
tember, 1865, or as soon thereafter as practica-
ble, and to remain in forfce üntil December 31,
1865.
Bi is will be received for (50) fifty cattle and
tfpwards.
Payments will be made at tbe end of each
mof^h in funds furnis <ed by the United States,
for (public disbursement, tor the quantity of
Fresh Beef accepted.
Tbe right is reserve! to reject any proposal
nat considered advantageous to the Government.
